Essential improvements[edit]

James Woodcock's remastered soundtrack[edit]

Original MIDI soundtrack rearranged and re-recorded using modern professional audio equipment
Requires ScummVM

Minimise CD-ROM swapping[edit]

The original game comes on two CD-ROM's. Disk swapping can be avoided if you have multiple CD-ROM drives available by putting the games CD-ROM's in different drives, assuming that each drive will get a separate drive letter.

Use DOSBox

Notes With DOSBox you can IMGMOUNT each CD-ROM image onto a different virtual CD-ROM drive by adding lines similar to these to your dosbox config:

[autoexec]
MOUNT C "7THGUEST"
IMGMOUNT D "7THGUEST/CD/7th_Guest_CD1.iso" -t iso
IMGMOUNT E "7THGUEST/CD/7th_Guest_CD2.iso" -t iso
C:
CD \T7G
call T7G.BAT

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/255920/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (255920) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
  2. When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
