I can confirm that the Uplay versions of Rayman Origins (along with Rayman 3) have been updated recently to add Uplay DRM, you can't run the game without Uplay anymore, they also did not update the game to version 1.02 for whatever reason (they still use v1.00), the way I determined it wasn't using v1.02 is by trying to use Alt + F4 which is something they added in v1.01 and it didn't close. I also looked at the executable code as well to make sure I wasn't mistaken.

Is it compatible with the retail version's patches?
Probably not, I didn't test that out when I had it installed sadly, if you copy the GOG version's executable though (which is v1.02) it will work perfectly.
My save file got corrupted and upon further research I found that someone created a small application that automatically creates regular backups in case of corruption:
