The game seems fine but I have few problems with it.

First one is a random lag spike. Like, sometimes it will lag if there is a hint pop up on the screen or if I open inventory menu. And then lag could happen while I'm using telekenesis to move crates or other objects around. But it lags most in settings, which I noticed when I tried change the buttons of the controls.

Second problem is the mouse camera. I try to turn camera around a little bit, and if I continue to do it then it will launch my camera away to left or to the right, depends on where do I move it. And yes, I tried to change mouse sensitivity in settings, but it doesn't help that much.

As for the version of the game. I downloaded majorgeeks version with a fix, that was already fixed to work on Windows 10, because I read that simple version would not work on Windows 10. So yeah, any advice on how to fix all this???

I was researching some things about this game, but i think it's better to point out first before put it on the wiki.

  • I tried the Freeware version but i downloaded it from majorgeeks.com. It says it's the freeware version with a fix. I load the first level at least (i didn't test anymore yet). Is this a legal version?
  • The Freeware version and the Retail version i have are multilanguage (ENG, FRE, GER, ITA, SPA) with at least ENG and SPA voices (i didn't test the other ones)
  • The retail version puts the language on the installer, but the Freeware version only works in English until you change the registry. However, the version i use is only a ZIP and it do not add anything to the registry. But with the retail version i found the registry keys involved to make change the language (1 For English, 4 Spanish. I haven't tested anymore yet):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\GAMESTAR\PsiOps]

"LANGUAGE"="1"

Responding to myself, i tested the Megagames hosted file posted in the wiki (seems the original FilePlanet, IGN? Ad-Supported version) and not only doesn't work with the "No Internet Connection" error (for sure because the Ads Server is gone), in addition it doesn't fully install althought it says it does, because for a weird issue it doesn't extract all the CABs (You have to do it manually).

The mayorgeeks version is the same, but with two different files, what seems a cracked version. And i didn't find an official statement anywhere about this is a official or an allowed version (only a reference in Wikipedia, and that doesn't make anything official at all).

Anyway, the Ad-Supported version has the same problem with the language: It is multilanguage (ENG, FRE, GER, ITA, SPA) but it only plays in ENG because it doesn't add the registry key to change the language above mentioned.

Psi-Ops was another of Midway's free ad-supported games similar to Area 51 and The Suffering. Can we get it working good enough to mention here? Or are the ad servers down in such a way, getting around them runs into our piracy rules?

Garrett (talkcontribs)

The ad method used for Psi-Ops prevents play entirely since it can't reach the ad server, and unlike Area 51 there isn't an official DRM removal patch to apply over top of it. I haven't tested The Suffering, so I don't know whether its ad method differs.
