DRM-free KS version: RAY DLC crashes and possible solution?

I got a DVD and the NES-styled USB, I installed the the former but both seem to use the same installer. When I decided to stick my RAY Expansion DLC folder into the game, it seems to crash the DRM-free Kickstarter version on PC (not sure about Mac or Linux) when attempting to start a game, however I went and compared some of the files and I noticed the executables, both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions, have some file size differences with the Steam version.

32-bit executables:
• Kickstarter - 20.1 MB (20,588 Bytes)
• Steam - 20 MB (20,578 Bytes)

64-bit executables:
• Kickstarter - 25 MB (25,700 Bytes)
• Steam - 25 MB (25,695 Bytes)

EDIT: Okay now for some reason the game is still crashing with the DRM-free KS version even after swapping executables.
