Putting aside the bugs in these master lists, we have:

  • DLC weapons upgrades technically work, but they are never acknowledged a fix already exists though
  • LotSB adds back the Stasis power, which should be available to new players on character creation, but this is broken on PC. In fact, sometimes the DLC may break every other power too.
  • Moreover, on higher difficulties stasis also happen to result in OP damage multipliers for some instants.

I guess like these bugs could even go in the "issues unresolved" section.. But at the end of the day, they are tiny enough that knowing them is gonna probably cause you more anxiety than whatever annoyance they may add in-game.
Outside of the game per se instead... We still have the bloody "communication has failed or timed out" error in the menu. Only the god knows how or why it came to be (it could be entirely server-side as well), but the Origin version has a mysterious "MassEffect2.exe" launcher (not to be confused with retail/Steam MassEffect2Launcher.exe, which internally is actually named autorun) that for some reason, before calling "ME2Game.exe" always phones home to proxy.novafusion.ea.com and reads and writes Player1.prf.

According to Mirh leftover currency is an issue, like with late Microsoft points. Should be added to article, I personally don't know how Bioware points function.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

What "leftover" issue was there with MS points?

Imo, it's not really the same, given:

  • a) MSp were a live currency actively used all around the actual "system" (not just some niche thing, not even used in newer games, so abandoned that it even skips store-wide sales)
  • b) for as much as an individual could buy "more points than needed" and be "disappointed".. It's still a case that (realistically) you can still always use them to buy something else. With BWp instead, you can reach a situation where you are left with some funds, but there's physically no content else to buy (with the money basically gifted to EA Bioware)

I own the Standard Edition on Steam and Deluxe on Origin, is there a point getting DE on Steam or should I just get the DLC Bundle on Origin since DE doesn't include all DLCs and they're downloaded through Origin anyway?

"All of the DLCs are available in a bundle on Origin, bypassing the Bioware Points. Steam and retail versions can use separate installers to access them for free (direct links are provided below for convenience)."

How exactly does it work, isn't there a check through Cerberus/Origin?

Aemony (talkcontribs)

Uuuhhh... beats me... but no, doesn't seem to be a reason to get the DE edition on Steam since it doesn't come with the content DLCs.

That said, it's worth giving the "access them for free" a shot since it's an actual EA page and links: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/dlc-for-classic-games/#masseffect

If it works then it works, if not then it doesn't work.

Extreme (talkcontribs)

You can download and install these DLC for free but you need to buy it to have access to these DLC these installers on EA page are for people that have Steam version or box version after installation you need to log in to Cerberus network/EA account on which you bought DLC

Addign these lines to GamerSettings.ini is useless. It doesn't do anything.
What you have to do is get Mass Effect 2 Coalesced Compiler
then open BIOInput.ini and edit these lines to these
[Engine.PlayerInput]
bEnableMouseSmoothing=false
MouseSensitivity=0.15
[SFXGame.BioPlayerInput]
bUseMouseDampening=false

lastly open BIOUI.ini
[SFXGame.BioSFHandler_PCConversation]
AccumulationDivisor=600.0f

Then open ME2CC.exe and click on Compile coalesced.ini

Mirh (talkcontribs)

Mhh no.

I did test that myself and it worked. And it doesn't require extra fancy tools (which btw we are already mentioning)

Are you using latest patch?

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

Yes I use fully updated Origin version. It doesn't work.

Origin version auto-downloads DLC

Ah I see. But Digital Deluxe doesn't include all the DLC surely? The one I added to game's page.

Garrett (talkcontribs)

The Digital Deluxe does not contain all DLC (as far as I know there is still no complete edition of Mass Effect 2).

Garrett (talkcontribs)

DLC purchased from the BioWare Social Network is available through Origin's normal DLC system. Installing the BioWare Social Network DLC without Origin involves running individual EXE installers. Dragon Age: Origins used a similar system.

There might be some way of using Origin to download all DLC and then continuing to play that content through a non-Origin version of the game.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

Why all this fuss when you can just download installers here?

Direct links are also available.

Garrett (talkcontribs)

Blackbird's question was regarding the stated behaviour differences. I've reworded it a bit to hopefully make the difference clearer.

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

Also another thing I just noticed. Since Origin version auto-downloads DLC, it also downloaded the Genesis DLC which is the interactive story that "replaces" ME1's decisions.
Problem is that even if you import ME1 character it still appears and can invalidate your choices. Only workaround I found is to delete DLC_DHME1 in the DLC folder so the choices from ME1 saves are preserved.
If someone wants to be helpful please add it to Issues fixed :)

Garrett (talkcontribs)

I have reworded the mentions to make the Origin and non-Origin behaviour differences a bit clearer.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

With my disc version I always needed DVD in the reader.

With Steam version I believe it should behave similarly to ME1 (thus Steam DRM)

With Origin version, though things are a bit different.
If you don't touch anything after installation and run directly the game executable (Origin can even be closed), a pop up comes out and ask you to log-in with your EA account (where I guess a ME2 license has to be registered).
After that %PROGRAMDATA%\Electronic Arts\EA Services\License\mass_effect_2_ce.dlf is created (file name may differ between game localizations)

Then the game starts flawlessly forever with nothing in background.
Or you could start the game through Origin that should automate the process (I don't even think a normal person could notice that)

This is quite problematic since unexperienced people could report wrong information (like me before some brain work)

Anyway, I'm quite sure this can be called "Online activation".. but should that even be Account-based activation?
The description in the drm page is quite messy imo

RaTcHeT302 (talkcontribs)

You can launch the game normaly through Origin, then it's DRM is Origin. If you can launch the game without Origin then just add it in the notes, I truly have no idea what the hell you are even trying to say here.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

A game is not DRM-protected if it can be launched through Origin (or Steam or whatever)
It's DRMed only if the game must be started through said programs.

Anyway, that was indeed the problem. Somebody wrote the game has to be launched through Origin... just because the icon on his desktop probably linked to origin.
And I am sure instead I was used to just skip that.

Though, since I haven't it installed -and I'm not planning to give a check soon- I left that note (which since you don't seem to own the game I don't know how is so certain for you)
