Controller mapping bug with lack of support for certain buttons

It does not support XInput (R2/L2 mapping on any XInput controller such as XBox 360), but FF7Steam has an additional bug where it doesn't map some buttons such as the directional pad on XBox 360 controllers. It seems like a button range bug of some kind. FF8Steam, for example, does not suffer from this and lacks XInput support as well.

I'm just not sure how to put all the above in a pithy sentence.

The Xbox 360 Controller driver has the d-pad set as a POV hat for DirectInput. Games that only support actual buttons won't allow mapping the d-pad (same for the triggers since those are a shared analog axis).

Many thanks for that - that's correct and I should've thought of it sooner. Been years since I've been involved with gamedev!

I'm wanting to add the WineHQ ID for this game (125); however, it's shared with the original version, and both versions show up for the same ID as "versions" (1.0 and Patches for the original, 2012 Rebirth and Steam for the re-release). Should I still add the WineHQ tag with the appropriate ID for this game?

Garrett (talkcontribs)

Yes, the same ID would apply to both versions since WineHQ lists distinct versions of a product under the same entry (they also do this for Microsoft Word and so forth).

Why combine two "games" into one page?

Shouldn't these be separate?

Suicide machine (talkcontribs)

Yes, it should definitely be separated. This is just one big mess at the moment.

Pridit (talkcontribs)

I agree these should definitely be separated, does anyone want to do the honors?

FF7 (2012) using old saves

I own a copy of the original PC release but from laziness/lack of easy access to my old disks I purchased the 2012 edition as well. This only features cloud saves but I still have copies of my old saves. Has anyone figured out how to use the old saves instead? I tried dropping them into the new save folder, C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Square Enix\FINAL FANTASY VII\user_%%%%%%\, but the cloud-sync replaces them on start-up.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

You can actually downgrade the 2012 edition to the retail edition, google for "kranmer converter". You will lose all the new features though, so no more cloud saves.
