Full Controller Support

16
Puntja (talkcontribs)

Hey Guys

The Page says Battlefield 4 has full controller support, but it doesnt!

you can't navigate all menus, there are no button prompts, you can't control the weapon crate menus, you can't pick up weapons

Waschbär (talkcontribs)

Just tested it with a wired X360 controller and had no problems in any menu or in-game. Do you use some generic controller by any chance?

176.190.144.161 (talkcontribs)

I have a wired 360 controller as well but I am not able to make it work ... I obviously connected my controller prior to launching bf4. In the key assignment part of option I have a « joystick » column but when I try to change the binding, no press on any button is recognised.

I am just beginning on pc and plan to transfer to m&k but i would like to have a little fun as a controller player since 2015

Puntja (talkcontribs)

i use a xbox one controller. i tried it wired and wireless. I also googled it and a lot of persons do have the same problem.

the controller works, you can control menus, but nut ALL menus, and the xbox 360 button prompts are missing. also you can't pick up weapons.. :-\

And yes I use the latest origin release

Waschbär (talkcontribs)

This might be a problem on your end then. I think I checked every menu, including the battlepacks screen, and they work fine. Picking up weapon also works for me, just have to hold Y for a bit. Prompts during gameplay are always keyboard icons, yes, but that is already mentioned in the wiki.

Unplug any unused USB devices/dongles, delete the settings files (make sure it isn't restored from the cloud), check if a driver update for the controller is available. Don't know what else it could be.

Puntja (talkcontribs)

already did everything you said. still the same.

also tried and wireless and wired 360 controller instead of an xbox one controller

i can control and play the game, but I can't control all menus (like the weapon crates in single player) and I can't pick up weapons of killed enemies

I can confirm that using vanilla Xinput designed for Xbox 360 emulation leads to a fully working gamepad support. That is, the controller must appear to the system as "XBOX 360 For Windows" in your Game Controllers window in Control Panel. It's a shame that the controller layout is not configured to align with console versions by default. Furthermore, some of the stuff can not be made to work like it would work on console.

Mondriaan (talkcontribs)

It is so strange that the controller works in Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 5, there is a editor for the settings for BF 4 and it tries to load the settings from BF 3 but it does'nt help.

Mondriaan (talkcontribs)

The controller in Battlefield Hardline does'nt work also.

Mondriaan (talkcontribs)

It looks that TocaEdit x360 cant do the job because there are anticheat processes in these shooter games.

Was there a solution for this? I am lookin ng everywhere and Cannot find one. I am using an Xbox one controller and running off origin. Cannot use the ammo crate menus to swap loadouts while using my controller.

I use xbox elite 2 controller with this game on PC, same issues with create boxes etc

125.162.210.48 (talkcontribs)

Have same issue here , im using DS4 and steam client btw ,there's no other option than keep your mouse as the sidearm

I found a workable solution for this. I'm using a PS5 controller and playing through Steam/Origin. On the steam controller settings, go to "Base Configurations" > "Desktop Configuration." Set the trackpad "Style of Input" to "Mouse." Set the "Click Action" to "Left Mouse." Set "Trackball Mode" to "Off."

On the Battlefield Menu, erase the binding that causes the trackpad click to bring up the menu. It will function as a left mouse click instead. This has worked for me. Adjust the mouse sensitivity as needed to move the weapons menu up and down. I am still trying to figure out a better way to use the scroll wheel function but haven't figured out a good solution for that yet. (You're welcome. -astralmind)

What worked for me was repairing the game. Go to Origin select the game, go into the settings and click repair. I was having trouble with MULTIPLE CONTROLLERS NOT WORKING. Dual shock 3, 8bitdo pro 2(third party that connects to different consoles) and a xbox one w/ dedicated windows dongle. None of them were working on the game but after I went into the Origin and repaired the game, they all worked flawlessly. Hope this helps

Battlefield has never had full controller on PC, I don't know why PCGamingWiki keeps insisting otherwise.

I'm yet to see any Battlefield game show Controller keybinds on PC, and I have official Xbox Controllers.

In regards to multi-monitor for the Battlelog

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

Once borderless fullscreen windowed is added properly we should probably mention that that would likely be the preferable way of showing the game while using Battlelog simultaneously.

Garrett (talkcontribs)

Yes, borderless would be the ideal explanation once it's working (unless they implement second monitor support in-game for this in the the final version which isn't likely).

I don't have the beta to test but is it possible to put the browser window on the correct monitor ahead of time, or does that make the game then start on that monitor? If it can be moved before launching that would be the better way of wording the solution.

ClutchHunter (talkcontribs)

Both in the beta and now the full game the window with Battlelog open can be placed anywhere. Battlefield 4 will always open on the primary (typically first) monitor.

Garrett (talkcontribs)

Thanks, I've reworded the description to put the browser moving first.

Jitterdoomer (talkcontribs)

What about during Twitch Streaming, the third monitor is used for looking up chat and notifications on OBS, isn't that right?

Garrett (talkcontribs)

Battlelog is just a regular browser window. The game has no direct control over it. It can be positioned and resized however you want it.
