Essential improvements

Limit FPS

Limiting the framerate to 60 FPS is recommended, otherwise problems such as "slippery / sliding" movement can arise.[2][3][4]

120+ FPS
No frame rate cap. Game was designed to be played at ~60 FPS. Excessively high frame rate (over 200) results in delayed player movement responsiveness and sliding on terrain. See limit FPS.
High dynamic range display (HDR)

Field of view (FOV)

Change Field of View[5]
  1. Open <path-to-game>\code.pak and extract CameraPlayer.class.
  2. Open CameraPlayer.class with dirtyJOE - Java Overall Editor.
  3. Go to the Constant Pool tab and change 65 in 0258: CONSTANT_Float: 65 to the desired FOV value (horizontal).
  4. Save the file and overwrite the original.
  5. Add the modified CameraPlayer.class back to code.pak, overwriting the original as well.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/271500/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (271500) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
