Corrupted graphics[edit]

Use Scarface Generic Fix[citation needed]

If the game crashes on startup, install outside of Program Files.[9]
Some users unable to achieve a locked 30 FPS or above may need to restart Windows with one CPU core enabled on multi-core PCs despite running corrupted graphics fix.

Run the game at screen refresh rate[edit]

The game defaults to a 60 Hz refresh rate. Enforcing a 60 FPS cap is still recommended.
Override refresh rate set by game[10]
  1. Download and extract dgVoodoo 2.
  2. Open the folder in which you extracted dgVoodoo, and copy D3D9.dll from the MS\x86\ folder to the game folder.
  3. Run dgVoodoo, and add the game folder to the list.
  4. Enable the "Enumerate refresh rates" option.
  5. Go to the DirectX tab, and set your resolution (e.g. 1920x1080, 119Hz).
  6. Disable the "dgVoodoo Watermark" option if you don't want to see the dgVoodoo logo.
  7. Click OK to save your changes.

Low frame rate[edit]

The game starts only using one CPU core.
Set the program affinity
  1. While the game is running, Alt+Tab , and open Task Manager. Make sure you click the 'More details' arrow to show the full Task Manager.
  2. Go to the 'Details' tab, and find the process 'Scarface.exe'
  3. Right click the process, and select 'Set affinity'.
  4. Check the box for '<All Processors>', and click OK.
This has to be done every time the game is launched.
Because of poor implementation, forcing vsync off can provide significant performance benefits as well.

Game won't start on Windows 7 and above[edit]

Download 3D Ripper DX[citation needed]
  1. Download 3D Ripper DX.
  2. While installing, Select 3DS MAX 9x 32-bit and press Next.
  3. Check all the checkboxes on page 2 of installation.
  4. Skip the last page and continue to install.
  5. Launch 3D Ripper DX.
  6. Where it says "Please select DirectX 6/8/9 application to analyze"(the first option at the top), press the folder to the right of it, find the Scarface folder you have installed on your drive and select Scarface.exe.
  7. Press "Launch" at the bottom right of the program.
