Essential improvements
Skip intro videos
Manually remove/rename the intro videos[3]
|
- Go to
<path-to-game>\GameSDK\Videos\ .
- Delete or rename
ArkaneLogoAnim_Redux_1080p2997_ST-16LUFS.bk2 , Bethesda_logo_anim_white.bk2 , LegalScreens.bk2 , and Ryzen_Bumper.bk2 .
- If you also wish to remove the intro videos for the Mooncrash DLC, go to
<path-to-game>\Whiplash\GameSDK\Videos\ .
- Delete or rename
ArkaneLogoAnim_Redux_1080p2997_ST-16LUFS.bk2 , Bethesda_logo_anim_white.bk2 and LegalScreens.bk2 .

Make the game use TSSAA without SMAA[5][6][7]
|
- Go to the configuration file(s) location.
- Open
game.cfg .
- Add these lines:
r_AntialiasingMode = 4
r_AntialiasingTAAPattern = 11
- Add optional
r_AntialiasingTSAAMipBias = -1 to add a bit of sharpening to the image to counter blurriness from TAA.
- Save and close. Make the file read-only, because if not the changes will revert after launching the game.
|
Custom FPS cap[8]
|
- Open the game and make a change to any video setting.
- Go to the configuration file(s) location.
- Open
game.cfg .
- Change
sys_MaxFPS = XX , where "XX" is the desired FPS cap.
- Save the changes.
Notes
- Changing the value to
0 caps the frame rate at 60 FPS.
- Alternatively, higher frame rates can also be achieved by turning on V-sync. This introduces some input lag, but the amount is very small at frame rates over 144.
|
Vert- FOV scaling workaround
|
The FOV scales in a Vert- fashion, but the game exposes a FOV setting to compensate for it.
- Open the game and make a change to any video setting.
- Go to the configuration file(s) location.
- Open
game.cfg .
- Add
cl_hfov = XX.X anywhere in the file (or change it if it was already there, FOV defaults to 85.5656), where "XX.X" is the desired horizontal FOV.
- To calculate the perfect FOV for your aspect ratio, you can use this website.
- Save the changes. Make the file read-only, because if not the changes will revert after launching the game.
- The game won't accept values higher than 120 from user settings. If so, use Flawless Widescreen (it allows for higher values, but does not make FOV scaling Hor+), or simply remove the FOV line from the file; if the game doesn't find the FOV in the user settings, it will automatically scale it to match your aspect ratio, and allow for values beyond 120.
|
Reticle shifting down
|
The first person reticle in the game is offsetted by default and placed below the screen center.
For aspect ratios higher than 16:9, the offset does not scale correctly and it ends up going lower than it should be, making the game harder to play.
- Open
<path-to-game>\GameSDK\game.cfg .
- Replace
g_reticleYPercentage = XX.X , where "XX.X" is the desired reticle vertical offset (0.5 is the center), and save.
- To calculate the perfect value for your aspect ratio, you can use this formula: 0.5 + (0.075 * ((16/9) / target_aspect_ratio)). 0.575 is the default value, thus the shift from the center at 16:9 is 0.075.
- In order for it to work in the Moon Crash DLC, you have to edit the same value in <path-to-game>\Whiplash\GameSDK\game.cfg

Post-processing
Disable motion blur(s) manually[10]
|
- Go to
<path-to-game> .
- Create a file called
autoexec.cfg and open it with a text editor like Notepad.
- Add the line
r_MotionBlur = 0 to disable all motion blur.
- Add the line
r_MotionBlurCameraMotionScale = 0.0 to disable only camera motion blur while keeping per object blur.
- Save the changes.
|
Disable motion blur(s) manually (Xbox Game Pass version)
|
- Go to the configuration file(s) location.
- Open
game.cfg .
- Add the line
r_MotionBlur = 0 to disable all motion blur.
- Add the line
r_MotionBlurCameraMotionScale = 0.0 to disable only camera motion blur while keeping per object blur.
- Save the changes.

Input
Rebind weapon wheel manually in config file[13]
|
- Go to
%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Arkane Studios\Prey\Profiles\default\ .
- Open
actionmaps.xml with Notepad.
- Look for the line
<actionmap name="player"> and paste the following code below it.
<action name="enter_focusmode">
<rebind device="keyboard" input="b" defaultInput="mouse3"/>
</action>
<action name="mouse_enter_focusmode">
<rebind device="keyboard" input="b" defaultInput="mwheel_up"/>
</action>
<action name="mouse_enter_focusmode">
<rebind device="keyboard" input="b" defaultInput="mwheel_down"/>
</action>
- In this example the weapon wheel is now remapped to B on your keyboard. This can be changed to your liking.

Edit the save files
|
- Make a backup of your current saves and disable Steam Cloud.
- Go to the Cargo Bay and make a new manual save, then quit the game.
- Go to your save game location and to the
manual# folder for the save you made in step 2.
- Move the
lifesupport.level file to another folder.
- Start the game and load the manual save from step 2.
- Enter Life Support (you will know it worked when there are enemies and the level has reset) and make your way down to the Escape Pods.
- If you go into the Escape Pods and don't find a phantom named kirk Remmer, quit the game and delete the
lifesupport.level file from the manual# folder and try again.
- If you go into the Escape Pods and find him, kill him and loot him, the objective should update.
- Go back to the Cargo Bay and once inside save over the manual save you made in step 2 and quit the game.
- Move the original
lifesupport.level file (the one moved to another folder in step 4) into the manual# folder overwriting the one you just used to find Kirk Remmer.
- Continue as normal from the save in step 9.

Modifications
- Makes it easy to adjust various elements of the user interface, input, and graphics otherwise, as well as include new features and quality of life changes.
- Works with the GOG.com and Steam versions, but does not work with the Epic Games Store version.
- Adds missing shadows, volumetric lights and fog, reflections, particle effects, sun flares, improved view distance (editable in-game via an advanced settings menu), parallax occlusion mapping, and persistent decals, among others.
- This mod is only for the main game, not the Mooncrash DLC.
