Fog effects fix

On some cards supporting vertex shaders, fog artefacts may appear on the horizon or in the sky. To avoid this, disable vertex shaders at the loss of some special effects (water and dynamic lighting).
Disable vertex shaders[citation needed]
  1. Open <path-to-game>\environment.cfg with a text editor.
  2. Add the line D3D8_ENABLEVERTEXSHADERS=0.
  3. Save the file and close it.

Water effects fix

  • On Radeon 8500 and Matrox Parhelia, the water surfaces do not render correctly (using the current drivers at the time of writing). This is a driver issue. Until new drivers have been released that solves this problem, disable pixel shaders to minimize the problem.
Disable pixel shaders[citation needed]
  1. Open <path-to-game>\environment.cfg with a text editor.
  2. Add the line D3D8_ENABLEPIXELSHADERS=0.
  3. Save the file and close it.

Notes

  1. This version of StarForce DRM does not work on Windows Vista or later.[2][3][4][5] For supported versions of Windows the StarForce driver may need to be updated manually using SFUPDATE.
  2. 2.0 2.1 2.2 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  3. 3.0 3.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/1194610/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (1194610) may differ in some cases.
