Summary
This is a custom illustration made to give a simplistic view of how Auto HDR "decompresses" the SDR frame of a game and tries to restore an approximation of the assumed original HDR signal of it before sending that HDR frame onward to the display.
The illustration was based on a slide from AMD Tech Summit's FreeSync 2 presentation in 2017, "The Quest for Pixel Perfection", and uses various duplicated and repositioned parts of the image in various places.
