Version differences

The North American retail version (Indigo Prophecy) removes some nudity content; digital distribution and European retail versions (Fahrenheit) are unaffected.

Essential improvements

Patch 1.1 (2005–09) fixes a variety of bugs. The version is already patched.

Controller support

A fix is required for the game to recognize XInput triggers, D-pad, and right analog stick when assigning controls.
Fix remapping issues[citation needed]
  1. Download and run XInput Plus.
  2. Set the "Target Program" to Fahrenheit.exe.
  3. Go to "DirectInput" and check "Enable DirectInput Output".
  4. Assign Right Stick to Z Axis/Z Rot.
  5. Assign LT/RT to Button 11/12.

  7. Click Apply and OK.

This fix replaces the dinput8.dll included in the Widescreen Fix. To use both fixes together, rename dinput8.dll (from the Widescreen Fix) to dsound.dll.[4]

Issues unresolved

Dialogue gets cut off mid-sentence

Happens occasionally throughout the game. However, the issue can't be reproduced consistently, making it difficult to troubleshoot.
Forcing vertical sync should resolve the issue, for users with variable or high refresh rate displays it may be preferable to use half refresh rate sync. If the game runs at 60 frames per seconds normally and the issue remains, manually limit the frame rate at 30 FPS should fully resolve it.[5]

Alt+Tab in fullscreen breaks the game

Run in windowed mode as a workaround.

  1. This version of StarForce DRM does not work on Windows 8.1, Windows 10, or Windows 11.[2][3] For supported versions of Windows the StarForce driver may need to be updated manually using SFUPDATE.
  2. When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  3. 3.0 3.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/9740/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (9740) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
  4. For users with Intel integrated graphics, this only applies to specific integrated graphics solution from the vendor at the time of the game's release.
