Widescreen Fix[1]
  1. Open the folder in which dgVoodoo2 is, and copy Glide2x.dll from the 3Dfx/x86 subfolder to the main game folder.
  2. Open dgVoodooCpl.exe and inside the "Glide" tab, type a 5:4 resolution that has the same horizontal resolution of the native one (for example, 1920x1536 for 1080p, or 3840x3072 for 4K).
  3. Go to "General" tab and set Scaling mode to "Stretched, keep Aspect Ratio".
  4. Open the "GeneralExt" tab by right clicking in the config window and clicking on "Show all sections of the configuration".
  5. Inside it, write in the "Display ROI" area the following: 16_9, pos:(0|456) for 1080p, or 16_9, pos:(0|912) for 4K.
  6. Open Dethkarz.exe with a hex editor such as HxD.
  7. Press Ctrl+F and set Datatype to Hex-values.
  8. Search for 0000B442 and click OK.
  9. Replace it with 9A99D442.
  10. Press the F3 key and also replace that value with the one shown above.
  11. Press the F3 key 10 times and also replace the value there.
  12. Save the file. If it won't save because of no permissions, go to the Properties of the file and uncheck the Read-only box.
  13. Open Vertigo 3Dfx (Glide 2).dll inside the "Device Libraries" folder with a hex editor.
  14. Press Ctrl+F and set Datatype to Hex-values.
  15. Search for E00100006880020000 and click OK.
  16. Replace 8002 with 0005, and E001 with D002.
  17. Save the file. If it won't save because of no permissions, go to the Properties of the file and uncheck the Read-only box.
  18. Open Dethkarz's Configuration (see Change rendering device section) and select 3Dfx Voodoo Driver.

Other information

Change rendering device

To change the default resolution/rendering device, retail installations will have a Start Menu shortcut for Configuration.
This shortcut is missing from the GOG.com release.
Creating a Configuration shortcut
  1. Create a new shortcut to the game executable (<path-to-game>\DethKarz.exe).
  2. Edit the shortcut and add the /c switch to the end of the Target field then apply/save.
Using the newly created shortcut will open the Configuration screen, allowing to change the selected rendering device.
A Performance Benchmark shortcut can be created by using the /p switch instead of /c when editing the shortcut.

Notes

  1. Applications writing to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE will be redirected to other locations based on various criterias, see the glossary page for more details.
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/1257910/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (1257910) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
  3. When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
