HORI Fighting Stick (Generation 4)

The third-generation of the HORI Fighting Stick are a series of arcade game controllers released by HORI since July 29, 1999.

New to this generation is the analog joystick with built-in rumble motor. The joystick can acts as either the D-pads, a left analog stick or a right analog stick depending on the stick setting slider. Unlike past models, the third-generation models are all PlayStation-compatible models, and can emulate as either a DualShock or a DualShock 2 depending on the models. It has the unique Hori-style arcade layout.

The first model, simply named Fighting Stick (with Vibration), does not have turbo function. The follow up model, the Fighting Stick 2, was released on July 1, 2004, and added back the turbo function, along with the analog buttons instead of the digital buttons. Unlike the first model, the Fighting Stick 2 emulate as a DualShock 2.

Due to made specifically for the PlayStation consoles, all third-generation Fighting Stick models requires a third-party adapter to be able to use on PC (See Adapters), and even then, they will acts as DirectInput devices, requiring the use of a third-party wrapper to play games that only support the XInput API. Some adapters may support the analogue inputs on the pressure-sensitive buttons of the Fighting Stick 2, but other adapters turn them into digital buttons. Even if the adapter support pressure-sensitive buttons, it may requires special driver and software to support them.
