The second-generation of the HORI Fighting Stick are a series of arcade game controllers released by HORI since December 17, 1993.

Unlike the first-generation models which has the metal enclosure, the second-generation Fighting Stick models went with the plastic enclosure with a metal faceplate. While the turbo function was retained, the slow-motion function have been removed. All models has the unique Hori-style arcade layout.

The Fighting Stick NEO is the first model in this generation and was made specifically for the SNK Neo-Geo AES console. It is followed by the improved Fighting Stick NEO II on December 9, 1994, which has improved joystick and buttons. The Saturn-compatible and the PlayStation-compatible models, the Fighting Stick SS and the Fighting Stick PS, were released on December 22, 1994, and has 8 buttons instead of four on the NEO and NEO II.

However, the Fighting Stick NEO and Fighting Stick NEO II are unofficial products, and were the main sources of the Hori vs. SNK court case, where the latter accused Hori for infringing their copyrights on the Neo-Geo. In the end, Hori was ordered to not show the "NEO" name on their products and pay 121 million yens in compensatory damages to SNK after the judges found that it had violated SNK's trademark[1]. Only the Fighting Stick SS and the Fighting Stick PS are officially licensed products by Sega and Sony Interactive Entertaiment (then-Sony Computer Entertainment) respectively.

Due to made specifically for the aforementioned consoles, all second-generation Fighting Stick models requires a third-party adapter to be able to use on PC (See Adapters), and even then, they will acts as DirectInput devices, requiring the use of a third-party wrapper to play games that only support the XInput API.

Steam

With most adapters, Steam may recognize the Fighting Stick as a generic DirectInput device, thus requiring manual button mappings via Steam Input.

The API tool software for the adapter has numerous functions available, including turbo, manual button mappings, swap around the D-pads and analog stick(s) and other features.
