Sega Sapporo Studio, also known internally as Division 3 within Sega, is a Japanese video game development studio and is a subsidiary company of Sega.
It was originally known as Sega Global Entertainment R&D Dept. 3 (Sega GE3 for short), a internal video game development division within Sega that spun off from Sonic Team Limited in July 2004. In May 2008, it merged with Sega GE2 and became Sega CS3, not to be confused with Sonic Team which carried the same division name from 1996 to 1999.
A separate studio, Sega Online R&D, was established in July 2010, and the new studio's first PC title is Phantasy Star Onilne 2.
Both Sega CS3 and Sega Online R&D were merged and became a subsidiary company, Sega Sapporo Studio, on December 1, 2021.
