Essential improvements

Patches

  • The 3dfx-patch and the Voodoo2-patch (requires the former) are available at soggi.org.

Windows 95 Restoration Pack

The Unofficial Max Pack 95 Restoration Project Pack adds the Windows 95 version of the game, alongside the DOS version.

The Windows 95 version allows the game to run at a higher native resolution and with higher frame rates. However, it is not as stable as the DOS version (some AMD/ATI cards have issues running it) and has poor multiplayer support.[4]

Improved draw distance

Edit OPTIONS.txt[5]
  1. Go to the configuration file location.
  2. Open OPTIONS.TXT (Steam) or DATA.TWT (GOG.com, 3dfx).
  3. Find the line containing Yon 35.000000 and increase the value to Yon 70..000000 or more.
Entering the in-game settings menu will revert the value.

Special Edition Mod

The Carmageddon Special Edition mod allows the game and it's expansion to easily run on modern computers while adding new pedestrians, tracks, and vehicles.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths).
