Essential improvements

Save anywhere

Unlock save anywhere functionality^[1]

Go to the configuration file(s) location.
Open settings.ini.
Change SaveAnywhere=0 to SaveAnywhere=1.
You will now be able to access a 'save' option in the settings menu.

Notes

Only save in locations where a phone booth is accessible. Anywhere else can break your save.

Restore licensed music

Use music restoration patch^[2]

Download Yakuza 0 Music Restoration Patch.
Unpack the files to the installation folder and overwrite when prompted.

Notes

Restores two songs that were replaced in the English version: one used in the intro cutscene and opening credits, and one used in the ending credits.

Maximum LOD settings

Sets the LOD drawing distance for both objects and pedestrians to maximum

Download PPF-o-Matic and Yakuza 0 LOD Mod and extract their contents somewhere convenient.
Open PPF-o-Matic.
Click 'Load CD-Image File'.
Set 'Files of type' as 'All Files'.
Choose Yakuza0.exe (<path-to-game>\media\).
Click 'Load PPF-File' and select yakuza0-lodmod.ppf.
Click 'Apply PPF-File.

Notes

Only tested with the original v1 version of the game; it may break things in later versions.

It may also significantly impact performance.

High resolution characters textures

Replace the textures^[3]

Download High resolution characters textures mod.
Unpack the files to the installation folder and overwrite when prompted.

Notes

Replaces the textures in gameplay with higher quality textures from cutscenes.

Might require slightly more GPU memory.

Disable blur effect in first person view

The game applies a blur effect while in first person view that some might find unwanted.

Disable the blur effect in first person view using Special K^[5]
Install the Special K mini-plugin for the game. While running the game, press `Ctrl`+`⇧ Shift`+`← Backspace` to bring up the Special K control panel. Expand the Yakuza 0 section. Enable `Disable First-Person Blur` Changes should take effect immediately.

Disable depth of field

The game includes a low-quality depth of field pass that some might find unwanted.

Disable the depth of field effect in first person view using Special K^[5]
Install the Special K mini-plugin for the game. While running the game, press `Ctrl`+`⇧ Shift`+`← Backspace` to bring up the Special K control panel. Expand the Yakuza 0 section. Enable `Disable Depth of Field` Changes should take effect immediately.

Install Yakuza 0 3D Vision Fix. Press `F5` while in-game to disable.

Disable ambient occlusion

Allows low-end users to disable ambient occlusion for a possible performance gain.

Prevent the game from changing volume level

The game increases the global audio level of the operating system in some cases (75% for the Sega logo at the start^[8], 100% when using an arcade machine^[9]).

Lock volume or change volume of the Sega logo using Special K^[5]
Install the Special K mini-plugin for the game. While running the game, press `Ctrl`+`⇧ Shift`+`← Backspace` to bring up the Special K control panel. Expand the Yakuza 0 section. Enable `Lock Volume` and/or `Quiet Start Mode` and tweak them as desired. Changes should take effect immediately.
