Issues & Fixes
Multiple monitors issue
When running the game (on Steam) while using more than one monitor the screen of the game flashes multiple times before crashing or closing the game using the task manager.
- Since the in-game options doesn't give a possibility to run the game windowed the only way to run it so is to force it through the 'Properties' menu. For exmaple disabling desktop themes and desktop compositsion.
Blue Screen of Death
World of Goo is known to cause a Blue Screen of Death for some people on start up, usually when the game has finished loading or when the 2D Boy logo appears. In most cases, this is due to an incompatibility with some newer NVIDIA drivers. Fortunately, there are two known ways this can be fixed.
- If you've bought World of Goo outside of Steam, try installing it through the official site or Humble Bundle (or wherever you bought it from) without using Steam. This will however mean you will not be able to use Steam achievements or some other Steam functions.
- If the first solution did not work, or you want to continue using World of Goo through Steam, try installing an older NVIDIA driver here, or here to roll back to a previous driver.
Graphical Tweaks
Resolution Change
World of Goo does not contain an option to change resolution in the game itself. To do so you must edit the config file manually. Firstly locate the config.txt
file. This is normally located in the directory:
- Windows:
C:\Program Files\WorldOfGoo\properties\config.txt
- Steam:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\world of goo\properties\config.txt
Within this text file, replace the values for "screen_width" and "screen_height" with your desired screen resolution values, and the game should run at this resolution.
Third Party Software
GooTool
GooTool is a utility to extend your World of Goo experience, enabling you to install new levels and mods to provide further gameplay, and to view and share your World of Goo accomplishments.
Features:
- Profiles - View your profiles, view your tower image and stats, backup and restore your profile, move it between machines, and upload to your tower on this website.
- Addins - Install and uninstall mods and new levels within the game.
- Options - Configure certain aspects of the game that you can't easily do otherwise - for example changing resolution or removing the loading screen video.
- Translation - An advanced mode for those interested in translating the game into their own language.
