Virtuelle Moorhuhn Jagd is a singleplayer shooter game that spawned the successful Moorhuhn (Crazy Chicken) series.
Initially, the company Art Department was commissioned by advertising agency V und B Werbeagentur to create a promotional advertising game for the Johnnie Walker whiskey brand. Developed in 1998 by Witan Entertainment, it was first presented during the demoparty Bizarre 98 under the name KippenSchieten. Shortly after, it was provided on laptops in selected pubs and bars. Because the file was small, it could simply be sent around by e-mail. Although further distribution was never planned, the game appeared on a large number of private websites just under a year later. The game spread rapidly in Germany and became extremely popular. What was initially viewed critically by the publishers soon led to an unexpectedly high level of public interest in the brand, which is why the game was officially made available for download by Art Department from 1999 on as Crazy Chicken: The Original.
The game is still playable on current systems.
