Not writing all of this up now, but things that need to be added to this article:

  • http://www.wsgf.org/dr/scarface-world-yours hints at a mouse sensitivity fix (for me setting this to the max in-game virtually did nothing, and it was still incredibly slow to respond), but the actual path for this in the registry is Computer\HKEY_USERS\<string>\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\VUGames\Scarface - at which point you can set this to be greater than in-game limitations.
  • The "patches" needs another less cancerous link, maybe a Gamefront mirror like https://gamefront.online/files2/listing/pub2/scarface-the-world-is-yours/Official_Patches/v1002/? would be better since the patches listed there wouldn't work (couldn't find installation) for me using a UK retail copy of the game.
