Essential improvements

Patches

Latest patch is automatically downloaded by SC:PT Updater Launcher, or standalone patches can be downloaded directly here

HD Textures from the PS3 version

Instructions[3]
  1. Download the archive from here.
  2. Extract the archive and copy the offline folder to the game installation folder and overwrite the existing files.

Notes

Although in higher resolution, the HD textures often look bland (especially wood), so installing the pack is not necessarily an improvement. HUD textures are different from the original and ads have been removed.

Skip intro videos

Instructions[3]
  • Launch the game through pandora_tomorrow.exe found in the installation folder to boot directly to the main menu.
  • To launch single-player directly use SplinterCell2.exe found in <path-to-game>\offline\system\.
  • To launch multiplayer directly use SplinterCell2.exe found in <path-to-game>\online\system\.

Widescreen resolution

Use ThirteenAG's Widescreen Fix[3]
  1. Download the archive from here.
  2. Extract the archive and copy the offline folder to the game installation folder.

Notes

FOV is automatically adjusted to resolution.
Removes HUD stretching and moves HUD elements to the edge of the screen.
When launching single-player a window may appear asking to download the latest version and dgVoodoo 2 which is required to fix some rendering issues.

Field of view (FOV)

Edit SplinterCell2User.ini[4]
  1. Go to the configuration files location.
  2. Open SplinterCell2User.ini.
  3. Find [Engine.PlayerController] section.
  4. Adjust the following values (91.3154482287 is advised for 16:9 displays and 85.2812718522 for 16:10 ones):
    DesiredFOV=75.0
    DefaultFOV=75.0
  5. Save the changes.

Notes

Custom FOV and Hor+ work only if applied before creating a new profile.

Windowed

Edit SplinterCell2.ini[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration files location.
  2. Open SplinterCell2.ini.
  3. Find StartupFullscreen=True
  4. Change True to False and save the file.

Anti-aliasing (AA)

Modify driver profile[citation needed]
  1. Download and run NVIDIA Profile Inspector.
  2. Select the Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow profile.
  3. Change Antialiasing compatibility to 0x08000040
  4. Change Antialiasing - Behavior Flags to None.
  5. Change Antialiasing - Mode to Override.
  6. Change Antialiasing - Setting to 8x Multisampling or your desired setting.
  7. Change Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling to 8x Sparse Grid Supersampling (optional)
  8. Click Apply changes.

Notes

This works only for Nvidia cards.
Force MSAA using dgVoodoo 2[3]
  1. Read the instructions below to properly setup dgVoodoo 2 for this game.
  2. Open dgVoodooCpl.exe and click on the DirectX tab.
  3. Set Antialiasing(MSAA) to 2x, 4x or 8x.

Notes

When using ThirteenAG's Widescreen Fix the included <path-to-game>\offline\system\dgVoodoo.conf file overrides the global dgVoodoo 2 settings. Delete/rename that file to use the global settings or edit it directly when using dgVoodooCpl.exe.
Water will be rendered incorrectly in two places in Komodo Shipyard level.
Force SMAA using ReShade[3]
  1. Read the instructions below to properly setup dgVoodoo 2 for this game.
  2. Download the latest version of ReShade and run the Reshade Setup program.
  3. Click Select game, then select SplinterCell2.exe found in <path-to-game>\offline\system\.
  4. Select Direct3D 10+ as the rendering API.
  5. Allow to download shaders/effects and choose either all of them or just SMAA.
  6. Run the game, press Shift+F2 to enter the configuration menu and follow the tutorial to create new profile and activate SMAA.
  7. In the Settings tab, under Usage Mode select Performance Mode.
  8. Click X in top right to exit the configuration menu.

Notes

If downloading shader archive fails, download the archive manually and extract it to <path-to-game>\offline\system\. Then in game in ReShade settings add \reshade-shaders-master\Shaders to end of the Effect Search Paths and \reshade-shaders-master\Textures to the end of Texture Search Paths field. Restart the game and continue from Step 6.
No water rendering issues.

Vertical sync (Vsync)

Edit SplinterCell2.ini[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open SplinterCell2.ini.
  3. Find a section [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice].
  4. At the bottom of the section (after OverrideOptimalRefreshRate=False), add a line:
    • UseVsync=True
  5. Save the file.

Mouse acceleration

Mouse acceleration is present whenever you equip/shoulder your weapon, as well as during aiming.
Edit ESetting.ini[3]
  1. Go to the installation directory <path-to-game>\offline\system\.
  2. Open ESetting.ini.
  3. Find all useAimTuning= lines and edit their value from v=1 to v=0 then save.
  4. When in game, be sure to create a new Save (loading a previous Save doesn't register the change).

Controller Support

This fix makes xinput controllers fully compatible (menus can be navigated without a mouse).
Go to <path-to-game>\offline\system
  1. Open Spintercell2.ini
  2. find UseJoystick=False and change it to UseJoystick=True
  3. download this fix
  4. paste the files in <path-to-game>\offline\system

Issues fixed

Broken and missing shadows, flickering water

Shadows and spotlights do not render on modern GPUs, rendering some areas of the game extremely difficult to complete (this issue is still present in the Ultimate Splinter Cell Collection release).
Sea and water may flicker in some maps.
Use dgVoodoo 2[3]
  1. Download dgVoodoo 2 from the official website.
  2. Extract the contents to the folder of your choice.
  3. Open dgVoodooSetup.exe and click on the DirectX tab.
  4. Under Videocard select GeForce 4 Ti 4800 from the drop-down menu.
  5. Select 256 MB from the VRAM drop-down menu.
  6. Click Apply and OK at the bottom of the dgVoodoo 2 application window.
  7. Copy .dll files from dgVoodoo2\MS\ folder to <path-to-game>\offline\system next to the game executable.

Notes

Requires dgVoodoo2 2.53 or later (included in the newest version of ThirteenAG's Widescreen Fix).
Due to the nature of emulation, this works almost flawlessly compared to the experimental fix mentioned below.
Sometimes a white flickering cross appears in center of the screen. Can be fixed by alt + tabbing out and back into the game.
Experimental fix[citation needed]
  1. Download this experimental fix.
  2. Drop the d3d8.dll file next to the game's executable (<path-to-game>\offline\system).

Enabling EAX Advanced HD

Users may be unable to enable EAX Advanced HD in the in-game audio options, as the selection is greyed out.
Use Creative ALchemy[citation needed]
  1. Download and install Creative ALchemy.
  2. Select the add option and specify the executable path and game title.
  3. Move the entry from the Installed Games box to the ALchemy-enabled Games box using the arrow buttons.
  4. Close the program, and enable EAX Advanced HD in the in-game audio options.

Notes

The game executable must be set to run as an administrator and in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
