Issues fixed

Windows 10 crash at start up

Use Windows 10 Fix[citation needed]

Notes

This fix only allows the game to run at the resolution of 640x480
Use DXGL[citation needed]
  1. Download and install DXGL.
  2. Add the game's executable to the application list.
  3. Make sure the "support all color depths" box is ticked in the DXGL Config program.
Use a DirectX 1-7 to OpenGL conversion wrapper[citation needed]
  1. Download WineD3D For Windows (works with both version 1.7.52 and 1.9.19).
  2. Extract the files named ddraw.dll, libwine.dll and wined3d.dll into the game directory folder in which the game executable is found.
  3. Go to the game installation directory where you pasted the files ddraw.dll, libwine.dll, and wined3d.dll, and rename the "ddraw.dll" file to "ddfuk.dll"
  4. Open RogueSpear.exe with a hex editor such as HxD.
  5. Click on "Search > Replace" or press Ctrl + R
  6. Search for ddraw.dll and replace with ddfuk.dll and click replace all.
  7. Save your changes by clicking "File > save" or by pressing Ctrl + S

Notes

This fix allows the game to run in many screen resolutions including 1920x1080.
Tested on Rainbow Six: Black Ops custom installer. May not require the hex editing step for the game to work.
Tested on RogueSpear Gaming Ladder custom installer. Only works if the hex editing step is done.
Tested with ATI 4350, no version of Wine wrapper working with Black Ops regardless of font fix and edited executable. Worked on Nvidia 1070 Ti and Intel 620.
Alternatively, use DxWnd or dgVoodoo2 wrappers[citation needed]

Notes

DxWnd is a full featured wrapper. Issue with cursor drawing trails in Black Ops menus, otherwise perfectly playable.
DxWnd did not require the ATI font fix during testing.

Crash at start up in fullscreen mode

Use DDrawCompat[4]
  1. Download ddraw.zip
  2. Extract ddraw.dll into the game's installation directory

Notes

May exhibit artifacting when alt+tabbing the game
Wrapper has no configuration options

Music does not loop

Fix CD audio not looping on Windows Vista and newer operating systems[citation needed]
  1. Rip your game CD-ROM's music to MP3 format and place it in a folder on your computer.
  2. Download patched _inmm.dll, and install it.
  3. Patch RogueSpear.exe in <path-to-game> by dragging it onto _inmmconf.exe.
  4. Open _inmmconf.exe and set DirectShow player for default file type in the method tab, as well as the MP3 type.
  5. In the _inmm.ini tab, add the 14 audio files you have ripped. Make sure the order is correct, and then save it in <path-to-game>.

Notes

  1. SafeDisc retail DRM does not work on Windows 10[2] or Windows 11 and is disabled by default on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 when the KB3086255 update is installed.[3]
  2. Applications writing to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE will be redirected to other locations based on various criterias, see the glossary page for more details.
  3. 3.0 3.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/13660/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (13660) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
  4. When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
