Essential improvements

Configure video mode

By default the game launches with low color and software rendering. Switching to high color and hardware rendering will result in much smoother rendering.
Instructions[citation needed]
  1. Download the Cougar Setup Utility and extract it.
  2. Run the utility.
  3. For Resolution mode, choose the 32bpp option if not already selected.
  4. For 3D Rendering device, choose Microsoft Direct3D Hardware acceleration through Direct3D HAL (Direct3D HAL)
  5. Set any remaining options you want, and click Exit. Click Yes when prompted.

Notes

The utility may turn subtitles off, so be sure to check that setting in-game the next time you launch the game.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/343000/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (343000) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
  2. 2.0 2.1 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
