Xbox 360 Wired Controller Fix
This controller configuration swaps the bumpers with the triggers. This is necessary because pressing both triggers simultaneously centers the Z-axis making it impossible to melee grab or aim and shoot.
  1. Go to <path-to-game>
  2. Open default.ini in a text editor and paste the text below to the end of the file.

3. Save and Exit
4. Run the game, go to Controller Options, assign the Left and Right Sticks as they are not mapped by default.

If the controller is still not recognized open the USB Game Controller Control Panel (Win+R control joy.cpl) to find the actual name of the used controller, edit the controller name inside the square brackets to match, replace spaces with underscores. Controller_(XBOX_360_For_Windows) and Controller_(XBOX_360_Controller_for_Windows) are the most common values for official and third-party XBOX 360 Wired Controllers.

Issues fixed

Game crashes after copyright screen on modern versions of Windows

Caused by the game's faulty video player[7][8]
Install SilentPatch.[4]
Rename Movies to _Movies.[9]

After renaming movies folder, character can not be named after creation

A problem caused after applying SilentPatch into the European version of the game
Workaround[citation needed]
  1. Create a save file in the original European godfather.exe without any mods.
  2. Find a US executable that will enable SilentPatch to work, and replace the existing one.
  3. Rename the _Movies folder back to Movies.
  4. Move the save file from %USERPROFILE%\Documents\corleone to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\GF\SG\.

Notes

  1. SafeDisc retail DRM does not work on Windows 10[1] or Windows 11 and is disabled by default on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 when the KB3086255 update is installed.[2]
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/24820/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (24820) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
