Although the game installer is 16-bit, the actual game is 32-bit. There are two ways of running the game:

Running the exe from the disk^{[citation needed]}
In the Game of Life CD, go to the `Life` folder. Run the life.exe file to play the game.

This also allows launching the game without a CD

Setting up the game manually^{[citation needed]}
Create a new folder called "The Game of Life" somewhere on the computer (eg. the Desktop). In the Game of Life CD, go to the `Life` folder. Copy the contents of the folder and paste them into the folder that was created before. When everything has finished copying, go into the installation folder and run the life.exe file to play the game.

Use dgVoodoo 2^{[citation needed]}
Download and setup dgVoodoo 2. Once the initial setup is done, go to the `MS` subfolder. Copy the `DDraw.dll` file and paste it into `<path-to-game>`. Run the game.
