  2. Open SkyrimPrefs.ini.
  3. Change bBorderless=1 and make sure bFull Screen=0.
  4. Save and close the file.

Frame rate (FPS)

Havok physics do not function correctly past 60 FPS by default.[10]
These tweaks allow playing the game at high frame rates without the known physics problems that occur. It is possible this fix will negatively affect scripts and cause unforeseen issues. Use at your own risk.
Automatically fix high FPS physics[11]
This method has the advantage of preventing FPS drops caused by the game not being able to achieve the target FPS.
  1. Install SKSE64.
  2. Install the SKSE64 Havok Fix mod.

Notes

The plugin will automatically edit iPresentInterval to an appropriate value for the current FPS.
Remove 60 FPS cap and correct physics[12][13]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open Skyrim.ini.
  3. Under section [Display] add line bLockFrameRate=0 to remove 60 FPS cap.
  4. Add the section [HAVOK] and under it add line fMaxTime=(1 / your monitor's refresh rate) to correct the physics, i.e. for a 144 Hz monitor you would add fMaxTime=0.0069.
  5. See Run the game at screen refresh rate to run the game at above 60 Hz refresh rate.
  6. See Vertical sync (Vsync) to disable Vsync if you want FPS to exceed your monitor's refresh rate.

Game will start with a black screen and may take a solid minute or two for the main menu screen to appear.

No In-game music bug

Uncommon occurrence wherein in-game music will be disabled somehow, regardless of verifying data files.
[citation needed]
  1. Download Bethesda Archive Extractor.
  2. Extract sounds.bsa found in the Data folder using the Besthesda Archive Extractor
  3. Manually copy the extracted music files into the Data folder
  4. Now in-game music will be playing properly again.

G-Sync frame rate stuttering

With Nvidia G-Sync enabled frame rate becomes unstable.
Disable Vsync[19]

See Vertical sync (Vsync) to disable Vsync.

  4. Change RefreshRate=-1 to RefreshRate=0 under [Render.FrameRate].

Allow pressing Alt+F4 to close the game

Keyboard Shortcuts Fix[citation needed]
  1. Install Keyboard Shortcuts Fix and SKSE64 plugin.
Special K[citation needed]
  1. Install Special K by following the Special K Unofficial Guide.
