Upgrade Test Drive 5 to version 5.1.1
  1. Download the latest patch: Test Drive 5.1.1 Patch.
  2. Right-click the td5patch.exe. From the drop-down menu, select Properties.
  3. Once the window is open, select the Compatibility tab.
  4. Select Windows 95 and Apply changes.
  5. Run td5patch.exe and proceed through the install.
  6. Run the game.

  2. Open the MS\x86 folder and copy D3D8.dll, D3DImm.dll and DDraw.dll files.
  3. Paste the files into the game installation folder <path-to-game> where the game executable is.
  4. Run dgVoodooCpl.exe as administrator. Click the [.\] button below the banner.
  5. Under the DirectX tab, choose a Video card. Change the resolution to anything desired.
  6. Untick "dgVoodoo Watermark"
  7. Click Apply.
  8. Run the game.

Game crashes when starting a race

Installer doesn't work (hangs)

Analyze wait chain[1][2]
  1. Open Task Manager.
  2. Find 32-bit Setup Launcher (32-bit) on the list and expand it.
  3. Right-click on every child object that belongs to the process and click on "Go to details".
  4. In the Details tab, right-click on the highlighted element and click on "Analyse Wait Chain".
  5. If there are elements on the list, select them and kill the process.

Notes:

Most common programs causing issues are logitechg_discord.exe (Discord applet for Logitech Gaming Software) and nvcontainer.exe (part of Nvidia Experience).

Most textures are white

Run Voodoo.exe for Glide, and use nGlide or dgVoodoo[3]
