Solution to game crash on modern OS

Hi everyone. So, I decided to replay whole trilogy of Prince of Persia after many years, beat the first game and started Warrior Within right away. But the game starting to crash. First time in prologue, when there should be cutscene played, where enemy ship is about to hit yours. After restart, it no longer crashes, but it happens later on the island. When you roll under the first gate and about to reach the second gate before the castle, game will start freezing, and then two things will happen. 1. Either game just crashes back to desktop, with the error when it says that the game ended unexpectedly or 2. It will give you a BSOD after freezing.

But I found the solution to this problem. For my case at least. And all you have to do to solve this problem, is to turn off the fog in options/video options/ after you launch the game again. After that, this game didn't crashed on me never. But, since I disabled fog, some problems started to show up. Like, in some places textures were becoming black, in other places visual effects are missing, and sometimes the game runs faster than it should. And thanks to that, in some cutscenes, the sound is a little bit off from what's happening on the screen. And then there is a little bugs with shadows. And I think that this happens because I'am running Windows 10 from SSD and game from hard drive separately.

Anyway, if anyone can add the information about the fog problem and how to solve it, which I told above, to the main page of the game, so that people knew the solution to the problem, if anyone happens to face the same problem as me, I would be happy. I could do it myself but I'am new to editing info about games in here, and the editing itself looks confusing for me.

With Alchemy installed and EAX activated in game, there are still no EAX effects. Any known solution for that?

I did 😉. And I also tried out the other solutions to restore EAX, with the same result.

To be clear: The surround-sound works! It's just all the effects like reverb that don't work. As far as I can tell, this is a common issue.

WW is also the only title in the trilogy that supports EAX Universal. Maybe that's the source of the problem.

PS: It might also be the case that this is a specific issue of the GOG version that I am using. But I couldn't find any information to verify this.

I may have figured it out. I also noticed the reverb was pretty much non-existent. It's there, but barely audible so we gotta increase the its volume individually so it sounds more like (some) console versions: https://youtu.be/yrpCQl8lRyc?t=289 (maybe not like PS3 which has them bathroom acoustics everywhere)

Someone here claims it worked properly in XP, so perhaps EAX emulation is to blame: https://steamcommunity.com/app/13500/discussions/0/133259956017309679/

ALchemy doesn't support customizing the reverb, but DSOAL (the open-source alternative) does. So basically we just gotta edit alsoft.ini and set boost to 6 or 12 (depending on your preferences. 6 doubles it and 12 quadruples it so it's noticeable)
