The release version might not have working GPU decompression

It is dubious if the game uses GPU decompression as it inhibits no difference from the default behaviour when using the -noGPUDecompression command line agument, and outright crashes when forcing it to use GPU decompression with -useGPUDecompression.

In most situations the game barely sees a difference in load times when disabling DirectStorage by -noDirectStorage or outright removing the DLL files.

Hell, in some cases I even saw a *speed up* in load times when disabling DirectStorage (at the cost of worse performance or stuttering).

Seen a lot of people claiming it uses DirectStorage 1.0 instead of 1.1, without the GPU decompression feature, despite including the 1.1 DLLs, but not sure where that claim comes from, couldn't find any dev post about it at least.

A lot of people seem to keep repeating it though (googling "forspoken DirectStorage 1.0" finds a ton of different forum posts/comments about it), so I'm guessing some outlet somewhere has posted about that, but haven't been able to find an actual source yet.

Since the command-line arg doesn't work maybe it is likely that it's only using 1.0, but still wonder how so many seemed to know about that already...

E: ah might have come from this post from DF's Alex, seems to be earliest mention of it I could find: https://twitter.com/Dachsjaeger/status/1615440073146904576

It's from various sources. The early one being DF Alex as you linked to, but the later ones in the last couple of days are from me and others online that have tested it more in depth. Like you can remove the DirectStorage DLL files entirely and it still loads relatively the same. You can use the cmd line switch to disable GPU decompression and there's no difference at all. And if you try to force the game to use it, it crashes.

Everything points to the game shipping with v1.1 DLL files but not using the GPU decompression part of it (it's entirely optional what parts of the DirectStorage API developers may use -- having v1.1 files doesn't equate to using GPU decompression). The v1.1 claim itself is what's questionable as it seems to only stem from the fact that the included DLL files are v1.1 and have no other basis on anything -- neither testing, developer confirmation, etc.
