System Shock is a remake of the the 1994 game of the same name. The remake was developed by Nightdive Studios and published by Prime Matter.
The development of the game started on the Unity engine and was first announced in 2015 for Windows and consoles. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Linux and macOS ports were also confirmed. In 2017, the development moved from Unity to Unreal Engine 4. The Windows version was released on May 30, 2023.
The Linux and macOS ports are still under development and will be released at a later date.

- A pre-alpha demo was released for Windows and Linux. It was removed from official digital distribution after the switch to Unreal Engine as it no longer represented the final product. A newer demo using Unreal Engine 4 was released in 2020 on GOG.com and Steam, followed by its availability on Epic Games Store in 2021. On February 5, 2023, a significantly updated demo got released that was available till February 13, 2023.
