Mac App Store is a digital distribution platform operated by Apple. The store is preinstalled on MacOS starting with MacOS X 10.6.6, and is used to distribute the MacOS apps. Not to be confused with the App Store (also by Apple), which is for iOS devices.

App purchases on the Mac App Store are tied to the same Apple ID that is used to purchased the app, and as such, apps cannot be copied to another MacOS PC without reauthentication.[2]

The store was launched on January 6, 2011.
