Key points

Remakes of Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon.
Certain aspects of the game's physics are tied to the frame rate with varying degrees of severity (see High frame rate issues).

The game engine may allow for manual configuration of the game via its variables. See the Unreal Engine 4 page for more details.

Anisotropic filtering (AF)

Set AF manually[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open Engine.ini.
  3. Add r.MaxAnisotropy=16 below the [SystemSettings] line.

High frame rate

Set frame rate cap manually[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open GameUserSettings.ini.
  3. Add the following to the end of the file:
[/Script/Engine.GameUserSettings]
FrameRateLimit=60.000000

Downsampling

Use Unreal 4 resolution scale[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open Engine.ini with preferred text editor.
  3. Add the following to the end of the file:
  4. [ConsoleVariables]
    r.ScreenPercentage=100
  5. Change 100 to your desired value. 200 means double the dimensions from resolution selected in settings menu.
  6. Save the changes and start the game.

Post-processing

Remove purple tint

Use Tint Remover[2]

Remove blue filter

Use Underwater Blue Filter Remover[2]

Fog

Remove all fog[2]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open Engine.ini.
  3. Add the following strings.
[ConsoleVariables]
r.Fog=0
Use low fog or remove fog only from particular levels[2]
  1. Create a folder called ~mods in <path-to-game>\Falcon\Content\Paks\.
  2. Download Tint Remover.
  3. Copy desired +LowFog_Paks\ or +NoFog_Paks\ files to the ~mods folder.

Mouse smoothing

Disable mouse smoothing
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open Input.ini with a text editor:
  3. Add the following lines:
[/Script/Engine.InputSettings]
bEnableMouseSmoothing=false

Mouse sensitivity

Mouse Y-axis around twice as fast as X-axis.
Adjust INI file
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open Input.ini and add the following:
[/script/engine.inputsettings]
AxisConfig=(AxisKeyName="MouseX",AxisProperties=(Exponent=1.000000))
AxisConfig=(AxisKeyName="MouseY",AxisProperties=(Exponent=0.700000))
Try readjusting the Y axis multiplier if 0.7 doesn't feel right. Changing these values may break joystick input. Also affects flying with mouse controls (if enabled), swimming and free look, as it lowers sensitivity on the Y axis.

Undub

By default, games audio, subtitle and menu language are all tied together.
Install undub mod[3]
  1. Download Spyro Reignited Trilogy Undub.
  2. Choose the language you want the text and subtitles to be in and copy the contest into <path-to-game>.
    (Copying folder Falcon into directory with folder Falcon).
  3. Open game properties in Steam and from language tab, select language you want the audio language to be in.

Notes

If you want to uninstall the mod or change language, remove <path-to-game>\Falcon\Content\Paks\~mods\<language>_<mod language>.pak files.

VR support

Issues unresolved

High frame rate issues

Jump height affected by frame rate

Spyro's jump height is subtly affected by frame rate (he can jump slightly higher at 30 FPS); however, all three games can still be completed 100% without lowering FPS.[4] An example of this bug is how Spyro sometimes can't jump out of the water in Mystic Marsh.
Set frame rate cap to 30 FPS, or to "Unlimited" while having V-Sync on[5]

The druids in Alpine Ridge won't use their magic

There is a bug with the druids in Alpine Ridge where you cannot progress if the frame rate is above 30 FPS.
Set frame rate cap to 30 FPS, or to "Unlimited" while having V-Sync on[5]

Spyro slides around when standing still

If the frame rate goes above 100 FPS, Spyro may slide around the terrain with no input, resulting in very slippery controls.[6]
Set frame rate cap to 100 FPS[5]

Issues fixed

SteamVR launches on game start

Add launch parameter

Add -nohmd to Steam's launch parameters for the game or a shortcut.

Game audio plays through Oculus Rift regardless of settings

Disable the Rift Audio output device[7]
  1. Open the Settings app in Windows.
  2. Navigate to System > Sound and click on Manage sound devices.
  3. Click on Headphones / Rift Audio, followed by Disable.
Adjust INI file
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open Engine.ini.
  3. Delete the part that reads:
    [Oculus.Settings]
    GraphicsAdapter=0
    AudioInputDevice="{0.0.1.00000000}.{7c12ab8b-1ed5-42a6-aabd-2fdc22a73944}"
    AudioOutputDevice="{0.0.0.00000000}.{4c1ae4c1-cc6a-4f1c-9bda-43bb45680197}"
  4. Set Engine.ini to read-only.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/996580/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (996580) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
