Enable the "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" compatibility setting in the program properties for SONIC.EXE.

Video not available, cannot find 'vids:IV32' decompressor error

Occurs when entering the field trip school bus without the Indeo Video codec enabled in Windows.
Re-enable Indeo Video codec 3.2 in Windows
  1. Download the Indeo codec registry patch for iv32.
  2. Run the patch.

Remove CD requirement

Copy over files from the CD
  1. Open the SONIC folder on the CD and copy all the subfolders (ART, AVI, MAP, MIDI, TEX, WAV).
  2. Extract the folders to the <path-to-game>.
  3. Open %WINDIR%\SONICSH.INI.
  4. Replace all CD path entries for variables under the [PATHS] section with the corresponding paths for folders in the <path-to-game> (e.g. Tex=D:\Sonic\tex\ --> Tex=C:\SonicNT\tex\).
  5. Save the file.
