Essential improvements

Silent Hill 4 PC Fix by Steam006

Adds new features such as widescreen resolutions, 30FPS Cutscenes (Fix), restored PS2 brightness levels and fixes some of the bugs found within the game.
Adding a Windows Security exception may be necessary for moving and using DLLInjector.exe.
Instructions[citation needed]
  1. Copy all the files to <path-to-game>
  2. Configure options in Silent_Hill_4_PC_Fix.ini.
  3. Start the game with DLLInjector.exe.

Notes

When using the GOG version you can add DLLInjector.exe as a custom executable via GOG Galaxy.
It is ideal to add an exception/exclusion to the game directory to prevent any issues with DLLInjector.exe.

  2. Rename dinput8.dll to dsound.dll then move it to Silent Hill 4's game directory.
  3. Download and extract Silent Hill 4 randomizer,.
  4. Move data & scripts folders to Silent Hill 4's game directory.
  5. Go to scripts folder, open randomizer.ini and set everything to 0 except for RestoreHauntings which should remain 1.

Widescreen resolution

Silent Hill 4: The Room Widescreen Fix by ThirteenAG

A D3D8 wrapper which adds some fixes and new features, such as:
  • Widescreen support.
  • Disable cutscene letterboxing.
  • Changes FPS in cutscenes to run at 30 instead of 15.
  • Correct the UI/ HUD width in widescreen.
Enabling this option disables shader effects and makes some UI elements look strange.
  • Disables hardware check before launch.

Silent Hill 4: The Room Wrapper by Nemesis

A wrapper for the North American version which adds some fixes and new features, such as:
  • Change the resolution
  • Correct the FOV to widescreen
  • Disable cutscene letterboxing
  • Changes FPS in cutscenes to run at 30 instead of 15
  • Enable 60 FPS support. Has serious issues:
Causes Henry to be unable to move in attack stance.
Cannot finish the game because of a game-breaking bug during the final boss.
  • Disable the blur in cutscenes (change all values to 0)
  • Pause background will render at native resolution.

  2. Edit sh4w.ini and change all blur values from -1.0 to 0.0.

Input

Controller support

Controller support was fixed in the GOG version.[2]
A fix is required for the game to properly recognize XInput triggers and right analog stick when assigning controls.
Fix button assignment[citation needed]
  1. Download and run XInput Plus
  2. Set the Target Program to SILENT HILL 4.exe
  3. Go to DirectInput and check Enable DirectInput Output
  4. Assign LT/RT to Button 11/12
  5. Assign right stick to Z Rot / Z Axis
  6. Click Apply, this will install a DLL file in the installation folder
XInput Plus replaces the dinput8.dll included in the Wrapper by Nemesis.
Use XInput Plus and Wrapper by Nemesis
  1. Clean up the game installation folder to its initial state: delete all DLLs besides checkdx.dll, drc.dll and dsetup.dll
  2. Open the Wrapper by Nemesis archive, extract Nemesis 60FPS or Nemesis Wrapper folder to the game installation folder (based on your preferable framerate) and rename it to scripts
  3. Delete the dinput8.dll and rename sh4w.dll to sh4w.asi in the scripts folder
  4. Download the latest Ultimate ASI Loader, extract dinput8.dll, rename it to d3d8.dll and place it to the game installation folder
  5. Now you can install XInput Plus
Alternatively, the GOG version can be launched through Steam as a non-Steam game. Steam Input's community controller configurations can then be used.
Alternative: Use Steam Input[3]
  1. Add to Steam as a non-Steam game. Path to executable is <path-to-game>\SILENT HILL 4.exe.
  2. Launch through Big Picture mode.
  3. Check the community-made configurations for an applicable set of bindings.
