Widescreen resolution[edit]

Aspect ratios other than 4:3, 16:9, and 16:10 have skewed gameplay without this fix.
Fix aspect ratio constraint[3]
  1. Edit %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Shadow Complex\EmpireGame\Config\EmpireEngine.ini
  2. Change AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainXFOV to AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV
  3. Save your changes and close the file.

Anisotropic filtering (AF)[edit]

Anisotropic Filtering is set to 4x by default with no in-game way to modify it.
Edit EmpireSystemSettings.ini[citation needed]
  1. Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Shadow Complex\EmpireGame\Config\
  2. Edit EmpireSystemSettings.ini
  3. Change MaxAnisotropy= to a number between 0-32 (higher numbers equal more filtering).

Disable Motion Blur[edit]

Edit EmpireSystemSettings.ini[4]
  1. Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Shadow Complex\EmpireGame\Config\
  2. Edit EmpireSystemSettings.ini
  3. Change MotionBlur=True to MotionBlur=False
  4. Change MotionBlurPause=True to MotionBlurPause=False
  5. Change MotionBlurSkinning=1 to MotionBlurSkinning=0

Disable ambient occlusion[edit]

Edit EmpireSystemSettings.ini[citation needed]
  1. Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Shadow Complex\EmpireGame\Config\
  2. Edit EmpireSystemSettings.ini
  3. Change AmbientOcclusion=true to AmbientOcclusion=false

High frame rate[edit]

Change frame rate smoothing[citation needed]
  1. Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Shadow Complex\EmpireGame\Config\
  2. Edit EmpireEngine.ini
  3. Search and change bSmoothFrameRate to FALSE or raise MaxSmoothedFrameRate value.
  4. Save file and make it "read only".
For more information, see the Unreal Engine 3 page.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/385560/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (385560) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.

I made some changes to use "Best" anti-aliasing with some changes made to my controller and key remapping, closed the game, launched it again at a later time, and then discovered my settings reverted back to default after using this fix on the Epic Games version. Any help to fix this problem would be appreciated with workaround.
