Issues fixed

Corrupted graphics

Use SilentPatch[7]
Use dgVoodoo 2[10]

Workaround for Mouse Acceleration

Mouse acceleration is worse at higher polling rates. Use a 125 Hz mouse or lower your mouse's polling rate through hardware or software options.

Run the game at screen refresh rate

The game defaults to a 60 Hz refresh rate. Enforcing a 60 FPS cap is still recommended.
Override refresh rate set by game[11]
  1. Download and extract dgVoodoo 2.
  2. Copy D3D9.dll from the MS\x86\ folder to the game folder.
  3. Run dgVoodoo, and add the game folder to the list.
  4. Enable the Enumerate refresh rates option.
  5. Go to the DirectX tab, and set the desired resolution (e.g. 1920x1080, 119Hz).
  6. (Optional) Disable the dgVoodoo Watermark option to prevent the dgVoodoo logo from showing on game launch.
  7. Click OK to apply changes.

Low frame rate

Use SilentPatch[7]

Game won't start on Windows 7 and above

Download 3D Ripper DX[citation needed]
  1. Download 3D Ripper DX.
  2. While installing, select 3DS MAX 9x 32-bit and press Next.
  3. Check all the checkboxes on page 2 of installation.
  4. Skip the last page and continue to install.
  5. Launch 3D Ripper DX.
  6. Click on the folder icon to the right of "Please select DirectX 6/8/9 application to analyze" (the first option at the top), navigate to the game folder and select Scarface.exe.
  7. Press Launch at the bottom right of the program.

Can't load saved games, red square without prompts when trying to load saved profiles

Unplug any gamepads/controllers connected before launching the game[citation needed]
Run the game as administrator.[citation needed]

  1. This version of StarForce DRM does not work on Windows Vista or later.[2][3][4][5] For supported versions of Windows the StarForce driver may need to be updated manually using SFUPDATE.
  2. When running this game without Administrator elevation, 32-bit programs writing to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE will be redirected to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node (more details).
  3. When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
