Vertical sync (Vsync)

Set Vsync buffering[4]
  1. Go to the installation folder.
  2. Open system.cfg.

    • 0 – Auto detect based on desktop resolution
    • 2 – Double buffer always
    • 3 – Triple buffer always

Sharpening

With this CVar the image sharpness can be set, e.g. to increase it for getting better quality screenshots. Recommended values are between 0 and 2. Default value is 0.2.
Set AA sharpening[4]
  1. Go to the installation folder.
  2. Open system.cfg.
  3. Add r_PostAASharpening=x where x is a value between 0-4.

Notes

Can either be set in system.cfg or in the console when being ingame.

Issues fixed

Texture resolution is grayed out and can't be changed in the menu

Set texture resolution manually[4]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>.
  2. Open system.cfg in a text editor.
  3. Add sys_spec_textureresolution=x where x is one of the aftermentioned values.
    • 0 – Automatic detection based upon available video memory
    • 1 – Low (1.0 GB VRAM)
    • 2 – Medium (1.5 GB VRAM)
    • 3 – High (2.0 GB VRAM)
    • 4 – Very High (3.0 GB VRAM)

Notes

It's not recommended to set the texture resolution to a value higher than your available video memory (as per above) as it can possibly cause stuttering, but it might still be possible to use a certain texture setting depending on the resolution you're running the game at and VRAM usage you're getting.

Low/inconsistent framerate

Turn on ShadowPlay[6]

Turn on ShadowPlay on Nvidia gpus or use Windows 10 Game DVR feature, AMD Radeon Relive may have the same effect (needs confirmation).

Notes

This can make the game use more GPU power and run properly for some people.

Low CPU performance

Can help increase frame rate.
Enable high resolution system timer[4]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>.
  2. Open system.cfg in a text editor.
  3. Add sys_highrestimer=1 to enable the high res system timer.
  4. Save the file.

Stuttering

The following steps may fix stuttering on some systems due to the way VSync is handled in the game.
Enable triple buffering and vsync[citation needed]
  1. First apply the Low CPU performance fix.
  2. Disable VSync in game.
  3. Go to <path-to-game>.
  4. Open system.cfg in a text editor.
  5. Add this line at the bottom to enable triple buffering: r_NumBackbuffers=3
  6. Save the file.
  7. Go to the Nvidia control panel (or AMD equivalent) and enable both Triple Buffering and VSync for Ryse in the "Manage 3D Settings" tab and press Apply.

The game is capped at around 65 fps on Nvidia cards

Can/should be done in conjunction with the Low CPU performance and Stuttering fixes mentioned above.
Enable ultra low latency mode[7]
  1. Disable VSync in game.
  2. Go to the Nvidia control panel and enable Ultra Low Latency Mode for Ryse in the "Manage 3D Settings" tab and press Apply.
