Red Dead Redemption is a singleplayer third-person action, open world, shooter and TPS game in the Red Dead series.

The game first launched for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 18, 2010. It was later released for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on August 17, 2023. The PC version has been released on October 29, 2024, through various platforms such as Epic Games Store, Rockstar Games Launcher and Steam. The PC version features support for ultra high resolutions, high frame rates, monitor support for ultra-widescreen (21:9 and 32:9), HDR10 and high-fidelity upscaling technologies like DLSS 3.7, and FSR 3.0, as well as the Undead Nightmare expansion pack. It also supports DLSS Frame Generation for enhanced performance and is developed in collaboration with Double Eleven.[1] This is the only version of the game that is known to be heavily CPU-bound.[2][3][4]

Up to 144 FPS. Use ClipTweaks to change the 144 FPS cap to 1000 FPS.
High dynamic range display (HDR)
HDR experience can be improved using: RenoDX
HDR10 mode features a Day/Night scene setting and sliders for HDR Brightness and UI Brightness, although the sliders lack any numerical values. However, the HDR effect is artificial, as it’s just the SDR image placed in an HDR container with increased brightness. There isn’t a single pixel with contrast exceeding standard SDR levels. RenoDX greatly improves existing implementation.
Ray tracing (RT)
Color blind mode
See the glossary page for potential workarounds.

Post-processing effects

Use ClipTweaks with Updated ClipTweaks for v42

Notes

Provides separate toggles for depth of field, bloom and heatwave effects.

Ultra-widescreen

Use RoseTheFlower's fix to remove the pillarbox from cutscenes.
  1. Download an archive from the link above.
  2. Extract archive's contents into <path-to-game>.
  3. Open Run RDR and Fix - Steam.bat in a text editor and change the line
    start steam://rungameid/2668510 to start PlayRDR.exe.
  4. Copy the path to Run RDR and Fix - Steam.bat (on Windows 11: right click -> Copy as path),
    e.g. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Red Dead Redemption\Run RDR and Fix - Steam.bat".
  5. Right click the game in Steam -> Properties -> General -> Launch options. Set the value to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Red Dead Redemption\Run RDR and Fix - Steam.bat" %COMMAND%
(i.e. the path in quotes, followed by a space and then %COMMAND%).
  6. Close the Steam game properties window.

Issues fixed

Camera shake

The game can have some extreme camera shaking during dead eye/slow-motion, especially at higher FPS, possibly due to a timing bug.
Use Dead Eye Camera Shake Fix

Duster Coat & Poncho broken physics

Some clothes like Duster Coat or Poncho can display extreme shaking behaviour when FPS are above 30.
This weird physics behaviour can also apply to other objects like birds & NPCs.
Disable GPU Panel Framerate Limiter & VSync and use the in-game options only.

Xbox Bluetooth Controller FPS Drop Fix

If you experience FPS drops while using an Xbox controller connected via Bluetooth simply disconnect (hold the Xbox button until it turns off, or remove a battery) and reconnected it again.
