Version differences

The following versions are known to exist. You can check the version number by pressing AltV in game.

Known differences between versions are listed.

original floppy version

This release does not show a version number. When AltV is pressed it will instead show "PRINCE OF PERSIA 2".

1.0 Floppy version

Adds the option to the installer to "Make Program Accessible under Windows". This options seems to be missing from other versions.

Files on the disks are dated April 30 1993.

1.0 CD-ROM version

This version can be found on the Prince of Persia CD Collection released in 1995

1.1 CD-ROM version

This version can be found on the Prince of Persia Collection - Limited Edition released in 1998. This release can also be recognised as it has a film clip on the CD about the making of POP3D.

The v1.1 CD-ROM collections took out the in-game sound + music data for General MIDI.

Essential improvements

General MIDI

The game was composed on the original Roland SC-55. It also uses the Roland GS extensions for percussion.

Unfortunately, it sends drum changes that are incompatible with the Roland SC-55mkII or other later Roland models like the SC-88.

Because the game uses the Roland GS extensions, it will not sound the same when played on a non-GS compatible General MIDI compatible device.

A patch[1] by Vogons user Tikalat is available to fix some of these problems, such that the game will sound correct on other Roland GS compatible devices.

Roland MT-32

The game supports the Roland MT-32, but to sound correct it needs an MT-32 Old. When using the Munt MT-32 emulator, or a DOSBox build with integrated MT-32 emulation, make sure that a MT-32 Old ROM set is used.
