Version differences

This standard version is a PlayStation 2 port. It uses StarForce DRM and is only playable on Windows 8 and later with WIFIDarthMaul's fix which removes the DRM and certain registry dependencies.
The Gamer's Edition is an enhanced PC port featuring all the visual features from the Xbox 360 version like high resolution textures and higher quality 3D models. It was released DRM free.

Issues fixed

King Kong not properly installed

Instructions[4]
  1. Install WIFI_Darth_Maul's fix (this removes InstallPath registry dependency).

High frame rate Issues

High frame rates will cause NPC scripting will break in certain areas, it will break the screen when the player takes damage and King Kong will not be able to lift pillars off blocked doors preventing further progress.
Instructions
  1. Use RivaTuner Statistics Server to limit framerate to 60 FPS.
Alternative[citation needed]
  1. Use d3d8to9 (Only Direct3D 8 mode), and set monitor to 60 Hz.

Vsync (Enable by default) not working on Windows10 (Direct3D 8)

The game uses vsync enable by default but in windows 10 it does not work because the game uses Directx 8 and the vsync of directx 8 in windows10 is broken
  1. Download [1] d3d8to9.
  2. Copy D3D8.DLL from the folder to the game install directory.

Notes

  1. This version of StarForce DRM does not work on Windows 8.1, Windows 10, or Windows 11.[1][2] For supported versions of Windows the StarForce driver may need to be updated manually using SFUPDATE.
  2. When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
