Persona 5 Royal is a JRPG in the Persona series developed by Atlus and published by Sega. It is a port of the 2019 PlayStation 4 game of the same name, which itself is an enhanced re-release of the 2016 game Persona 5. Development of the 2022 release was handled by a team at Sega.[1]
The game was released on October 21, 2022 on the Microsoft Store and Steam, following an announcement during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase in June 2022.[2] This version includes the majority of the downloadable content that was included in the original PlayStation 4 release[3] and has support for frame rates up to 120 FPS and 4K displays.
Persona 5 Royal received overwhelming praise from critics upon release, with the only notable sore point with the PC version being the limited set of graphics options on offer.[4]

Issues unresolved
Game crashes when trying to save system data when run using Proton
- At present, running the game in a Linux environment using Proton may leave the game unable to create the initial system data on first launch, leading to crashing and rendering the game unable to be played.[13]
- This issue does not occur on Steam Deck.
Open Steam with the -steamdeck flag.[14]

Use GE-Proton7-38 or later which fixes the save file issue.[15] |

Shadow quality resets to Middle after every loading screen
- Currently, whenever the player goes through a loading screen or battle transition, the shadow quality will default to Middle. It will still show up as whatever was set up before in the graphic settings screen; however, the in-game shadows will behave as if the Middle setting was chosen.
- A temporary fix consists of going into the graphic settings and changing the shadow quality to anything, and then back to the desired quality, but the issue will repeat itself again on the next loading screen/transition.[16]
Install the Fix Shadow Settings mod to fix the shadow settings. |

Notes
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in
~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/1687950/
in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (1687950) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details. - ↑ The hitboxes while playing certain minigames may be offset and cause misses or unintended scoring.
- ↑ The Button Display option only exists on the Steam version.

Sega was in charge of the development of the remaster (not just matching the resolution to the console). It was a very meaningful project. Multi-platform development isn't easy. This was my fist porting project, and I didn't realize how hard it would be.'"

- It should be noted that the game appears to have a forced borderless presentation in this version, but this is purely an assumption here.

- Tested using a DualSense controller, no input was detected by the Steam version using DSX to emulate a Xbox 360 controller or a DualShock 4 or by trying to use it natively. Enabling Steam Input was the only solution.

- DualSense works without any emulation software on this version, but uses the Xbox bindings rather than the control scheme for that controller present on console and Steam versions.
