Essential improvements

Skip intro videos

Delete contents of legal.ogv[3]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>/2033/.
  2. Delete or rename legal.ogv.
  3. Right-click and create a new file named legal.ogv.
  4. A short intro video will still display after the loading. Press E or Space to skip it.

Notes

Deleting or renaming legal.ogv without creating a dummy replacement file will make the game crash immediately to the desktop without any error messages.

Field of view (FOV)

This game uses vertical FOV. See FOV Calculator for help.
Edit user.cfg[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file location.
  2. Open user.cfg.
  3. Change r_base_fov from the default 50.625 to the desired value.

Notes

The maximum allowed vertical FOV is 90. Any higher than that, and the game will reset the FOV to the default of 50.625.
Increasing the FOV will reveal unfinished player model.

Windowed

Edit user.cfg[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file location.
  2. Open user.cfg.
  3. Change r_fullscreen on to r_fullscreen off.

Notes

A bottom portion of the image may appear distorted.[5] To fix it lower the r_res_vert value by the distorted pixel height (f.e. when running the game in 1080p change the value from '1080' to '1040').

Resolution Issues

Some users have encountered issues such as not being able to set their native resolution; the game resetting their chosen resolution to a lower one; or the game's maximum available resolution being lower than their monitor's native resolution.[6] Such cases may be caused by the presence of multiple monitors attached to the computer, or attempting to play the game on an attached TV where larger resolutions may not be available. Possible solutions include unplugging any extra monitors[7] or setting the multi-monitor display mode in Windows to "Computer Only".

Issues fixed

Mouse sensitivity issues

The game applies different sensitivities for vertical and horizontal movement. It also has sensitivity settings that are too high for some players who prefer slower movement.
Use raw mouse input fix[8]

Install Metro Mouse Fix.

Download RInput (for Epic Store version)
  1. Create a shortcut to RInput.exe.
  2. Right-click the newly created shortcut, go to Properties, then add a space followed by "metro.exe" without the quotation marks in the Target box (e.g. "...\RInput 1.44\RInput.exe" metro.exe).
  3. Run Rinput through the shortcut before or during the game.

Run the game at screen refresh rate

In-game Vsync forces the refresh rate to 60 Hz in fullscreen mode.
Force Vsync in driver[citation needed]
  1. Disable the in-game Vsync.
  2. Force Vsync externally.

Game crashing

Crashing when loading a save on certain Nvidia cards[citation needed]
  1. Download this file
  2. Unzip into <path-to-game>\

Note: This bug and bug fix may not be limited to Nvidia cards. If you have an AMD chipset and are experiencing this bug, try the fix anyway.

  • Adding this to the Epic Games Store version throws a steam_api.dll missing error / Fail to launch condition.*

Micro Stuttering

If the game periodically skips a frame or two throughout gameplay, this may be fixed by un-parking CPU threads.
Un-park CPU threads[9]
  1. Download and install ParkControl Free
  2. In the ParkControl window, select "Bitsum Highest Performance" from the Power Profile drop-down box and click "make active"
  3. After you are done playing the game, revert to the previous Power Profile, click "make active" and exit ParkControl

No sound under Linux

This issue seems to occur when using PulseAudio

Add extra launch options[citation needed]
  1. Right click Metro in your library, choose properties
  2. Open "set launch options..."
  3. Add the following: SDL_AUDIODRIVER=alsa %command%

If this option enables sound but causes sound suttering or performance drops, try the following:

Fix performance issues after adding extra launch options[citation needed]
  1. Create a .asoundrc file in your user's home directory
  2. Put this into your .asoundrc:
pcm.!default {
      type hw
       card 0
       device 0
}
ctl.!default {
       type hw
       card 0
       device 0
}

      3. Save the changes

Where the digits for card and device need to replaced with the values for the soundcard you are actually using. You can find these values by running aplay -l.

So for an output like this:

$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]
 Subdevices: 0/1
 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

You would use card 0 and device 0.

If both options above haven't helped you may want to try this:

Some audio drivers don't play well with Pulseaudio's Glitch-free Feature, e.g. Creative X-Fi cards. To switch from newer schedule to older interrupt-based audio processing:

Disable Pulseaudio Glitch-free[citation needed]
  1. Open /etc/pulse/default.pa, and look for load-module module-udev-detect
  2. Add tsched=0 to the end of the line, like so: load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0
  3. Save the file and reboot your computer.
