There are plenty of reports on the web about complete loss of progress due to corrupted saves. Konami itself had acknowledged as much under certain circumstances,<ref>https://web.archive.org/web/20160110011651/http://www.konami.jp/mgs_portal/jp/info/?id=677</ref> but it seems like it can happen at various times and still does.

Field of view (FOV)

Extract mod to installation folder[citation needed]
  1. Download the mod
  2. Extract the contents inside the game installation folder
  3. Edit fov.cfg with your desired horizontal FOV.

High frame rate

By default, enabling Adaptive V-Sync in the driver control panel will disable V-Sync entirely on a 60 Hz display. Unlocking the framerate will fix this.
Edit config file[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file location.
  2. Open TPP_GRAPHICS_CONFIG in the text editor of your choosing.
  3. Change the line "framerate_control" : "Auto", to "framerate_control" : "Variable", and save the file.

Notes

If you make any changes to the graphics options in-game, this preference will be reset.
Affects camera/mouse input; Higher/variable FPS = higher/variable sensitivity.

Enable HBAO+

Pick Quality AO in the Nvidia Control Panel[7]
  1. Open the Nvidia Control Panel and go to the Manage 3D settings page.
  2. Switch to the Program settings tab
  3. Cick the add button next to the drop-down box and pick METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN. If METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN is not there click browse and select mgsvtpp.exe in the game installation folder
  4. Highlight the Ambient Occlusion box and change the setting to Quality and then press save.
  5. While in-game disable Ambient Occlusion so that the Nvidia Control Panel setting applies properly.

Notes

Make sure you have Nvidia GeForce 355.82 or higher drivers installed.[8]
Using in-game Ambient Occlusion may stop hitching in certain cut scenes

FXAA tied to effects post processing level

By default, you cannot disable FXAA while using Extra High post processing.
Alter packed game files[citation needed]
  1. Download MGSV_QAR_Tool.
  2. Extract it to the master folder inside the game installation folder
  3. Hold Shift and right click the master folder and pick Open command window here
  4. Type MGSV_QAR_Tool data1.dat -r then press Enter.
  5. Inside the newly created data1 folder find gr_init_dx11.lua open it in your text editor of choice.
  6. Ctrl + F to find the FXAA settings {settingName="PluginFxaa",settingTable={{name="G7",EnableFilter=1},{name="G8E",EnableFilter=1},{name="Default",EnableFilter=1},{name="Off",EnableFilter=0},{name="Low",EnableFilter=0},{name="High",EnableFilter=1},{name="ExtraHigh",EnableFilter=1}}
  7. Change name="ExtraHigh",EnableFilter=1 to name="ExtraHigh",EnableFilter=0
  8. Save the file, then go back to the Commandline Window and type MGSV_QAR_Tool data1.inf -r then press Enter.
As of patch 1.02+ Use the same steps to modify gr_init_dx11.lua in 00.dat file in the MGS_TPP/master/0/ folder instead.

Remapping
Can't use NumPad or symbol keys.
Some of the iDroid controls use Q and cannot be remapped, which creates a conflict when using a ZQSD control scheme on an AZERTY keyboard. It's easier to just switch your keyboard to QWERTY.

Issues unresolved

Player will involuntarily move in a random direction indefinitely

This glitch occurs both on foot and in vehicle.
Has a higher chance of occurring if the user frequently uses the Steam overlay and chat while in-game.
Can trigger on any key press not just movement keys e.g. call key
Tap WASD[citation needed]
  • Tap in the direction you are moving to stop.
  • Pausing the game, tapping WASD (up, down, left & right for controller) then un-pausing will reset all camera and movement control back to normal.

Shadow bug occurs when using Alt+Tab in Fullscreen mode

Minimising the game (Alt+Tab ) while using Fullscreen mode may cause shadows to become artifacted.[9]
Method 1: Change to a lower resolution, apply, and then, change back to your desired resolution[citation needed]
Method 2: Restart the game[citation needed]

Might corrupt save game files

There are plenty of reports on the web about complete loss of progress due to corrupted saves. Konami itself had acknowledged as much under certain circumstances,[10] but it seems like it can happen at various times and still does.
Workaround

None. Either replace save game files with manually backed up ones, or with those from someone else.

Issues fixed
