Availability

All Windows versions require Steam DRM.
The Mac OS X version is no longer available and unplayable as the server for the DRM has been shut down.[1]

Downloadable content (DLC) and expansions

All DLCs from console versions are built-in.

Game data

Configuration file(s) location

System Location
Windows C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\MGR\SaveData\
macOS (OS X)
Steam Play (Linux) <Steam-folder>/steamapps/compatdata/235460/pfx/[Note 1]

Save game data location

System Location
Windows C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\MGR\SaveData\MGR.sav
macOS (OS X) ~/Library/Application Support/Metal Gear Rising - Revengeance Steam/p_drive/User/Application Data/MGR/SaveData/MGR.sav
Steam Play (Linux) <Steam-folder>/steamapps/compatdata/235460/pfx/[Note 1]
The game uses a fixed path for its data instead of using the standard Windows variables, if the C: drive is missing or the aren't Documents folder under the user folder, the game will not be able to save and will crash.[2] Possible workarounds include manually creating empty Documents folder or using symbolic linking.

Save game cloud syncing

System Native Notes
Steam Cloud
Approx. 954 MB available.
Settings will sync too, except graphics settings.
Steam Cloud will not sync any files if the system doesn't have a C: drive.[3]

Widescreen resolution

Game is limited to 800x600, 1280x720, 1366x768, 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 only. Aspect ratios other than 16:9 are anamorphic.
Set custom resolution[4]
  1. Download MGROverride.
  2. Enter your desired resolution into the tool and press "Patch".
  3. Close the tool. You do not need to reopen it unless you wish to unpatch or change to another resolution.
  4. Select the 800x600 resolution in game to enable your custom resolution.

Unfortunately the file host is no longer functional, and backups are currently not locatable. Unless this is fixed this patch remains unsolvable.

Notes

Can cause minor graphical glitches, especially with the HUD.
You must manually select the 800x600 resolution each time the game launches. This is because the game tries to autodetect the correct resolution for your monitor on launch.

Remove noise filter

Remove noise filter[5]
  1. Download No Noise Filter.
  2. Extract to the installation folder and overwrite.

Modified camera settings

These mods fix some camera restrictions and leave the camera a little more calm and fixed. They also make the player character centered on the screen, rather than aligned to the left.
Use camera mods[6][7]
  1. Download Camera mods by Shigu.
  2. Extract the desired mod to <path-to-game>\GameData\.

Issues fixed

Crash on launch (Windows)

Even when the correct drive is present, the game might still crash from ntdll.dll as a faulty module
The game uses a fixed path for its data instead of using the standard Windows variables, if the C: drive is missing the game will not be able to save and will crash.
Restart Steam[citation needed]
Installing the game on the C: Drive[8]
  1. Add a new Steam library path on the C: drive. See Adding a new library path.
  2. Move the main installation folder to the new Steam Library path. See Moving a game from a different computer.

Notes

Alternatively simply reinstall the game on the correct drive.
Create a new C: drive[9][10]

Notes

If needed a USB stick can also be plugged in and set to the appropiate letter instead.

Run the game at screen refresh rate

Fullscreen mode may default the display's refresh rate to 24 Hz or 60 Hz, especially for users using HDMI cables.[11]
Set screen refresh rate[12]
  1. Install Special K by following the Special K Unofficial Guide.
  2. Start the game once and close it to allow the configuration file of Special K to be created.
  3. Open <path-to-game>\d3d9.ini or %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Profiles\METAL GEAR RISING REVENGEANCE.exe\SpecialK.ini depending on the installation method you used.
  4. Change RefreshRate=-1 to the proper value, e.g. RefreshRate=60 or use RefreshRate=0 for automatic detection.
  5. Change EnableTextureMods=true to EnableTextureMods=false.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/235460/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (235460) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
