High frame rate

Roughly ten percent of the game's enemies have minor animation issues when the frame rate is unlocked.[1]
HUD elements and 2D animations update faster when running at a higher frame rate.[2]
Unlock the frame rate for animations[3]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>.
  2. Open MarySkelter.ini.
  3. Change UnlockAnimations=0 to UnlockAnimations=1.
Change the refresh rate for Exclusive Fullscreen mode[4]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>.
  2. Open MarySkelter.ini.
  3. Change RefreshRate=60 to RefreshRate=XX, replacing XX with the desired screen refresh rate.

"DXFAIL: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED" error

Update graphics card drivers.[7]

"Memory Allocation" related errors

Add an exception to MarySkelter.exe in the currently running antivirus software, or disable it prior to launch.[8]

Notes

  1. When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/837610/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (837610) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.

"We have left this locked by default as about 10 of the over 100 enemies in the game have minor animation issues when the framerate is unlocked and we are unable to resolve this issue as it's a hangover from the original art assets. We wanted to add the ability to unlock the framerate to those who prefer it while not inconveniencing those who are happy with the regular fps for animation with these few quirky frames. After consulting with the beta testers we decided adding the line to the ini was the best solution all round"

  6. Known Issues and Workarounds - last accessed on 2018-07-19
"If your 2D assets such as text box art, minimap, etc, are messed up, this is usually a driver issue with AMD graphics cards. Please try updating your drivers to rectify the problem. Alternatively using previous issues of drivers has fixed this issue in the past."
  7. Known Issues and Workarounds - last accessed on 2018-07-19
"If you are experiencing this message you need to update your drivers. If this doesn't work then unfortunately we're unable to resolve the issue as there's a driver issue that cannot be mitigated. This usually seems to be a problem with Intel graphics cards."
  8. Known Issues and Workarounds - last accessed on 2018-07-19
"In some instances, Anti-Virus software may flag Mary Skelter: Nightmares as a threat which may prevent the game running or cause it to run at a lower frame rate and even to run out of memory. This has been experienced by a few users on Avast, AVG, BitDefender and Malware Bytes. To fix this whitelist the game / add it as an exception in your antivirus software.
      • BitDefender users should also ensure that they make the game executable bypass Active Threat Defense. This has solved the memalloc (out of memory) issue for most users.**"
  9. Known Issues and Workarounds - last accessed on 2018-07-19
"These errors may also stem from issues with DirectX installation. Please re-install DirectX, which you can do here: https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/2106-legacy-directx-sdk-redist-directx_jun2010_redistexe/ then restart your PC when you're done."
  10. Known Issues and Workarounds - last accessed on 2018-07-19
"Check your drivers generally are up-to-date, particularly if you have an Intel graphics card."
