Issues fixed

Crashing on modern operating systems / Gate won't open

On Windows Vista, XP, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10, the game tends to crash unexpectedly and suffers from a glitch early on where a gate fails to open.
Steam version[5]
  1. Download Manhunt Steam Fix.
  2. Extract the files to the installation folder.
  3. Run Manhunt Fix.bat to apply.
Retail version[citation needed]

Download and install Manhunt Patcher

DirectX 8.1 Error

Install DirectPlay
Windows 8/8.1/10 removes important DirectX components, causing game to crash on startup. These components can be brought back by installing DirectPlay. More about DirectPlay here.
  1. Go to Control Panel, and select 'Programs'.
  2. Select 'Turn Windows features on and off'
  3. Click on 'Legacy Components' and check the box 'DirectPlay'.
  4. Select OK, once the installation is done, restart your computer.
It is recommended to reinstall the game after installing DirectPlay.

High FPS / Glitched NPCs on Windows 10

Due to issues with D3D8, W10 has broken frame rate limiter which causes issues such as glitched AI
Cap the game to 60 FPS[6][7]
Use a Direct3D 8 to Direct3D 9 wrapper[8]

Run the game at screen refresh rate

Fullscreen mode defaults to 60 Hz, even if the screen refresh rate is set higher than that.
Set screen refresh rate[citation needed]
  1. Download and extract dgVoodoo.
  2. Open the MS folder and copy the contents to the installation folder.
  3. Run dgVoodooCpl.exe.
  4. Click on "Add" and choose the installation folder.
  5. Enable "Enumerate refresh rates".
  6. Go to the DirectX tab.
  7. Set the resolution from the list (e.g. 1920x1080, 119Hz).
  8. Disable "dgVoodoo Watermark" and click OK.

Fix flickering, ghosting models on modern systems

Replace DirectX 8 to 9
  1. Download and extract dgVoodoo.
  2. Open the MS/x64 folder and copy the D3D9.dll to installation folder.
  3. Rename d3d8.dll to something else and change the name of the D3D9.dll file to d3d8.dll.

Certain sound effects and music loop

Use Manhunt Audio Fix
  1. Download and extract Ultimate ASI Loader.
  2. Extract dinput8.dl to the installation folder.
  3. Download and extract Manhunt Audio Fix.
  4. Extract AudioFix.asi to the installation folder or scripts folder.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/12130/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (12130) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
