Issues fixed

Crashing on modern operating systems / Gate won't open

On Windows Vista, XP, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10, the game tends to crash unexpectedly and suffers from a glitch early on where a gate fails to open.
Steam version[4]
  1. Download Manhunt Steam Fix.
  2. Extract the files to the installation folder.
  3. Run Manhunt Fix.bat to apply.
Retail version[citation needed]

High FPS / Glitched NPCs on Windows 10

Due to issues with D3D8, W10 has broken frame rate limiter which causes issues such as glitched AI
Cap the game to 60 FPS[5][6]
Use a Direct3D 8 to Direct3D 9 wrapper[7]

Run the game at screen refresh rate

Fullscreen mode defaults to 60 Hz, even if the screen refresh rate is set higher than that.
Set screen refresh rate[citation needed]
  1. Download and extract dgVoodoo.
  2. Open the MS folder and copy the contents to the installation folder.
  3. Run dgVoodooCpl.exe.
  4. Click on "Add" and choose the installation folder.
  5. Enable "Enumerate refresh rates".
  6. Go to the DirectX tab.
  7. Set the resolution from the list (e.g. 1920x1080, 119Hz).
  8. Disable "dgVoodoo Watermark" and click OK.

XInput controller are not fully compatible

XInput controllers have wrong mapping and are practically unusable
Use XInput Plus
  1. Download XInput Plus.
  2. Set the target program to manhunt.exe
  3. Go to "Sticks", and change the "Rect Correction" slider from "0" to "1".
  4. Go to "DirectInput" and check "Enable DirectInput Output."
  5. Assign "LT/RT" to "Button 11/12"
  6. Assign "Right Stick" to "Z Axis/Z Rot"
  7. Assign "DPAD" to "Button 13-16"
  8. Press apply, this will install a DLL file in <path-to-game> (which will be automatically used when you start the game).
Camera Y axis is inverted
  • In XInput plus go to "Sticks" to "Right Stick" and tick "Invert Y" option
Something beeps when game launches
  • In XInput plus go to "Settings" to "Others" and untick "Enable Init Beep" option

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/12130/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (12130) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
