Maneater is a single-player action role-playing game wherein the player controls a shark through an open world (based on the Gulf Coast of the United States).[2] Maneater is developed and published by Tripwire Interactive and uses Unreal Engine 4 and Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM.[1]
Originally conceived as an expansion pack for the competitive multiplayer game Depth,[3] Maneater was initially developed by Blindside Interactive and was set to be published by Tripwire.[4] It was eventually wholly acquired by Tripwire, who continued developing it in-house with support from Blindside and other partners.[5] Maneater was announced on June 11, 2018 by Tripwire's publishing division.[6]
The game was released on Epic Games Store on May 22, 2020. The PC version will remain exclusive to the Epic Games Launcher for one year after this release.[7]
As of May 23, 2020, Tripwire is investigating an issue causing some players to lose progress in the game.[8]
